I have to go with Larry on this one. It's a new watch. If it's been setting in a ADs cabinet for awhile, it's as new as the day it arrived.

If it bothers you, the raise some hell, but honestly, you should just enjoy the watch.

Did you ever see a "sell by" date on a Rolex?

Thanks to all for your views and advice. I called the AD today and they were very responsive. They agreed that the Serial No. means the watch was manufactured in 2008 (I believe they were focused on the movement), advised they obtained the watch from Rolex in 2013 and understood my concerns. They offered to obtain another one for me, provide a deeper discount or I could return the watch. The deeper discount was very fair so I chose that option. Time to fully enjoy my new watch!

BTW: Sounds like a great Rolex AD.....

Nothing like hearing "Never heard/seen that before". If I ever had a dollar for every time I have heard that I could afford another Rolex:-).

Great outcome all around.

I'm glad it all worked out. Assuming everything the AD told you is true, the interesting part (and the lesson here) is that they received a V serial watch from the factory last year in 2013.

As far as the production date, I don't think the AD could know that anymore than the well informed members here. To me it is highly unlikely that Rolex built the watch in 2008 and had it sitting in finished goods for 5 years. There would be no business reason for Rolex to build and sit on PM watches like that when all those movements and crystals could be going into SS watches that are flying off the shelves. On the other hand it is totally plausible that a V serial WG Daytona case has been in the parts bin for a few years.

Anyway, glad you were taken care of.

Normally as a V serial you should have the easy link.
Any photos ?

My issue would not be the age, just that the service interval is promulgated by Rolex. Is this Daytona due for service?

It is a beautiful watch. Wear it in good health. The easy link clasp would be the giveaway but since it seems you were further compensated (which I am shocked by) I say Godspeed.

Short answer no do you think the movements are manufactured specially for a certain case.Take volume sellers with the cal 3135 that movement could be weeks, months, or a year plus old before its matched to a case.Modern synthetic oils are not like the old mineral type oils they don't dry out or loose the lubrication factor if watch is not running. Service time starts from the time the watch is strapped on the wrist to wear.

Your AD is excellent. I wish you could give a shout out here for them. But Rolex might not like that.
