I found platinum to scratch easily and the same with White gold ( soft metal) SS doesn't show scratches.

very slight metal difference visually... BUT.... no two models are identical, meaning bezel or dial color or numerals. meaning you can't tell me a blue dial sub is platinum or a pepsi gmt is SS or a blue dial with roman numeral and smooth bezel day-date is SS or a black dial submariner is platinum.

Really, Mike? I didn't realise that... I thought all white gold jewelry was rhodium plated to look white. Is there a different process that has been recently adopted?

Great comparison as always Tom. Merry Christmas buddy

I've never owned a WG or PT but YG I have... And I feel the YG scratches much easier than the SS

All of my watches gold, steel, platinum etc get hairlines or swirls and all the same. Again depends on the owner and habits but no watch is free from scratching is my point. My SS watches certainly show scratches the same as any other especially PCL's.

Had a friend, Jim, that retired from Englehardt, a gold, silver, and platinum company (owner of Englehardt was model for James Bond's Goldfinger) notice my watch was platinum. Actually, he asked if my watch was plated with platinum, because, he said, it did not look like stainless steel. I told Jim that it was the 50th anniversary Daytona, he responded that he can't tell a Rolex from a Timex, but he knows metallurgy; then he winked and said it must be a very special watch. The dude was right!
