Donna Douglas dies at 82

Donna Douglas, who played hillbilly bombshell Elly May Clampett on the baby-boomer-beloved 1960s sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies, has died. She was 82.

Charlene Smith, her niece-in-law, confirmed Friday to USA TODAY that she died of pancreatic cancer on New Year's Day at Baton Rouge General Hospital, near her home in Zachary, La.

I think many of us of a certain age thought how nice it would be to go for a swim with Elly Mae in the cee-ment (cement) pond.

She was a very kind person in real life, by all accounts. RIP.

This Louisiana icon was born and died less than 100 miles from my town... She was a local treasure and wow, all us teenagers loved watching her back in the 60s... Lol...
RIP Miss New Orleans

This is true. I haven't seen her do anything since the Sixties, so when I heard that she was 82, I was sort of floored.

She was almost 30 when "The Beverly Hillbillies" debuted and that's been over 50 years ago.

Time flies.

One of a number of shows I grew up with.

She actually was in a movie with Elvis as well.

I watched her in re-runs as an adolescent boy in the 70's. I can't even imagine her aging.
