in general

people who know watches buy Omega or Rolex. People who want people to be impressed with them buy a Rolex and talk about how superior Rolex is to anything, when really, it isn't (but is none the less a great watch with a long history).

So, really, buy what makes you happy. Hang the ambassadors

I own both and love them both for various reasons. Every time I take off my GMT and wear my Connie, I always think "Now why don't I wear this more often?" and I can never recall.

In my opinion, Rolex is superior in nearly every way.

I've actually owned a Omega SMPc and by far it was the worst £3k i spent - Not joking! It was a impulse purchase and i liked it at the AD, wore it for a few days and in every way was less superior than my 116610LN. The overall feel to the watch just isn't there, the bracelet is better than a 93250 rolex bracelet but the newer 97200 bracelets are far superior due to the higher grade steel used and of-course...the glide lock clasp! Aaaannndddd pretty much everything which Neil says!

oh... Worst part is, i just sold it and i lost 50% of the retail price

Both Rolex and Omega are mid-luxury brands, the Mercedes and BMW of watches if you will.

Well said Neil

Rolex and Omega are nice. Neither are what I call elite.

I thought the touch pads were just for the cameras, and what really happened was the swimmers were timed by an official with a Speedmaster :)

Great point of view, I really like Omega, I have my grandfather’s old watch. I am currently looking for a new watch and I’m torn between a speed master, a Daytona, or a GMT from either camp. Just to be fair F1 racing is all Rolex and to be honest, it’s all about money and advertising, not so much the quality of the watch timing… it’s all computers behind the scenes, no?

Both brands have really their respective merits and as much as Omega lost itself for a few decades, I think that they are back on track.
I will always be a huge Omega fan, but my tastes have matured and my horological knowledge and my budget have increased, I now have come to enjoy and respect Rolex for what it is (and what it is not). Who knows, may be that in 10-20 years from now I will be a PP fan?!

Omega doesn't own Breguet.

Omega and Breguet (Harry Winston, Blancpain, and Glashütte and many more) are owned by the Swatch Group
