RO with rubber/aligator strap
I would like to know if AP provide rubber/aligator straps that fits the classic RO 39/41mm. I know that there is a 15400 gold version with a gorgeous aligator strap with gold clasp aswell.
Anyone here use this combination? If yes would be nice to post some pics. |

Apbands for aftermarket is your only choice I think.

below comments are with respect to the RO jumbo ultrathin (15202) -- which is 39mm; not sure if you only were interested in the 15300.
there was a thread on this within another forum (tz) which I can link to here: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php...=0#msg_6821455 not sure if it's permissible, but mods can remove it, if need be. the gist is that while there's no purpose-made rubber strap for an RO jumbo, you can use the rubber strap from the city of sails. As to the alligator strap, it does exist: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=381040 |

The ultra thin will be more dificult to fit in the rubber strap of course, the 15300 should fit better.

From a width standpoint the City of Sails rubber strap is a 27/18 and I use it on my 25860 which is meant for 26/18 straps. But I just did a little Dremel/X-ACTO work on it and it works for me. I think the part number is posted in an earlier post about conversion kits for my 25860 and I suggest dealing with Clearwater directly too.

When you call Clearwater to get the City of Sails parts will they ask if you own a City of Sails watch? Or is it ok to tell them you are adding a strap to a 15300/15400?

They won't care what you want it for.

Mike, I did call AP in Bal Harbour and was initially told conversion wasn't "allowed" for my 25860. I couldn't believe it because others had reported success and when I tried a second time I found someone more "sympathetic" to my cause and got the parts which work perfectly (other than the previously mentioned 1mm difference in width on my model). After a few emails and calls, I think the initial resistance was simply because it wasn't in their system as possible. They asked their watchmaker and I got the okay. So I believe that they do care but it is more because they want to be 100% sure it works and you'll be happy with the outcome, not because they are control freaks like Rolex. So if the case is 26mm, if they give any "grief" I'd say that you understand the COS strap is 27/18. |

Which is how it should be I think. I guess the primary issue is getting the correct part numbers.
