Because I’m an incurable dreamer I have done some ‘in the head’ shopping a lot of times. I play in a (subscription) lottery with grand prizes up to 20 million Euro. That’s a lot of cash. Anne just can’t understand this dreaming but it sometimes helps me get over the hustle and bustle of everyday life. If we win (very slim chance), I’ll buy some landmark watches. At least two of them will be from the house of Panerai. This sounds pathetic I know but it is nice to have one’s dreams.

I think most people are lying if they say they have not had that thought.

I would say considerably less than half as good as yours, Daren.....if that cross section were real, the winding rotor would have to pass through the balance staff. My guess is that this would not be a good thing......

It looks like they cut a watch in half, and then someone with absolutely no watch knowledge stuck some extra bits in just to make it look like there are a lot of parts inside.......

Daren, LOVE your thesis!

This does seem to be the ONLY 'Rolex' forum on the net that is very much like a Panerai forum. The panny 'brotherhood' is something unique to that brand and something all other brand owners could and should learn from.

Rolex is a nice, tough watch, but it's not the end all and be all of horology. Life's too short to put one brand on a pedestal (said the guy wearing a Rolex).

It's just marketing, Fransie......nothing more, nothing less.

It may not be on the same level as "It takes a year to make a Rolex" but it's marketing just the same.....

Seriously, glad I seem to have just been unlucky with Panerai - I think they messed up with the G series (there were quotes to this effect on a couple of PAM sites at the time) where the Quality Control went out the window. Has knocked my confidence - but like most guys on this forum, (I guess) I'm nuts about watches, not just Rolex - although they have a special place in my heart - nothing to do with price or being flash, there's something about the classic looksof a Rollie. A Panerai is a nice 'alternative', I was just disappointed (and surprised) both of mine broke down!

They (Panerai) have also had some BIG problmes with their after sales service here in the states. It seems to be getting better, but I have heard very similar stories from owners of both brands (Rolex and Panerai) about expensive service costs that don't live up to the price.

The best watch service I know of is by Cartier. In 1980 I bought a Santos Dumont Carré, the first model (automatic). It came with a special pass that gives the watch unlimited lifetime guarantee (they dropped this service a couple of years later). My brother has this watch and it has been serviced and completely overhauled 4 times now. Every time it returns from France it is like new, all wrapped in blue plastic protective foil. And is it completely free of charge! Not even the shipping costs are charged. I’m very jealous of this I must say. It’s a great watch, very well made

More companies should pay attention to this procedure.

What I really don't like is rediculous markups when they're not required!
Can you say SS Daytona?
One AD told me $13,500, the next one only $9,350. ( Both Cdn Dollars)
