I have been following the used Rolex market for some time and it seems there are far more men's models available. In the TRF marketplace men's outnumber the ladies by at least 10:1, while on ebay they outnumber ladies 2:1.

However I don't see as many men wearing rolex out in public but I see a lot of ladies. This in San Diego - I see probably 2-3 rolex per day just when I'm going out for lunch.

- Ladies tend to receive their watches as gifts, and hence don't sell? (sentimental value)
- Ladies don't care to upgrade? (maybe they collect but don't tend to sell)
- Ladies want to show them off more? (seldom leave them at home)

Or...
- Maybe I'm just looking at the ladies more?

Men are probably more likely to buy a Rolex so their are more out there.

Simple: because there are more men's watches produced than ladies' watches. More on the primary market means more on the secondary market.

X2. I've tried to buy another Rolex to replace my wife's 30-year-old diamond dial, diamond bezel Datejust and she could care less. I've even offered to get her a gold Datejust to replace her two-tone model and she said no to that too.

My wife wants a Rolex because she simple wants a nice watch that not only looks good, but one that actually works. She's tired of her fashion watches breaking constantly.She told me that she would love to have a watch that can be worn in the boat, beach, pool and simply a watch that will hold up to every day chores with 3 children. So, with that being said, she doesn't care about having multiple watches. She just wants one that will work.

I suspect t that ladies have other priorities for luxury items such as clothes, shoes and handbags hence the demand for ladies luxury watches is less which is why Rolex makes fewer of them in the first place.

I think the gifting is a big part of it, but they do have more sense when it comes to this. It's not a big deal, and they don't obsess over the different models like us.

It's the same reason why you see more used rolex being offered than say patek.

Yep...

the shoes, handbags, fashion in general, is more important to them then a watch that not everyone can see from afar.

Maybe I am being sexist, but women seldom suffer the financial ups and downs in life men do... The used market is sometimes a sad testament to a guy getting laid off, kicked out of his house etc, thus, more watches being sold...

THC, respectfully disagree. I know plenty of women who have been through tough financial times, and given that a lot of them make less than men, it hits them harder. Plus, when a guy gets kicked out of his house, very often a woman is kicked out too.

I think that men are more likely to flip when they bought something they get tired of or their tastes change. Women are more likely to put it in a drawer and forget about it.

Everything that has been said is true. I have to add one more. Women don't like to buy used stuff. A long time AD said they have a very hard time selling used womens watches as they prefer new.

Very true. My wife has already told me not to buy her any used watches (or any used jewelry for that matter). Only way I'll save money on a Rolex for her is buying NOS with the plastics still on.
