Well I wouldn't therefore say that the chase is better than the catch, however it must help in the whole scheme of things! Enjoy!

Congratulations on the acquisition of this great timepiece! Enjoy the watch on your wrist. However people's tastes and interests do change with time. We will not blame you if you decide to get a 5970 or a split second chrono or some other rare and beautiful timepiece in the future :)

Uhh, Gus, this one I'm not familiar with. Is that the homemade version? Lol

Yes it is homemade by Patek ref 2512 as seen on display at their museum. Always something interesting to learn in watches, stumbled across this recently.

http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/inside-...hilippe-museum

"I won't try to tackle every watch I show here because there are simply too many, but I will call your attention to a few that are just downright epic. The watch all the way at the top is reference 2512 and it might look familiar to you. That's because this oversized (46 mm!) unique reference that houses a split-seconds chronograph is the inspiration for the Patek 5070J. The 2512 is truly one of a kind, and was sold in 1952 to Astrua in Torino as an aviator's watch. The watch sold at Christie's over 14 years ago for over $850,000. A watch in the same size, with the same color dial, and (practically) the same reference but without split-seconds chronograph sold in 2012 at Sotheby's for more, so just imagine what this bad boy would bring today. There is no limit."

Oh what I would do for that watch Elliot although I am afraid the Patek museum won't be parting with it any time soon.

Gus I love that watch and first time I saw the 2512 I was blown away. The 5070J has such strong ties to it and boasts vintage flair more so than any of the other 5070's!

the 5070 is the only watch that catches my eye at this time (2512 is off the table for more than a few reasons)

got to give it to Ben Clymer, he really gets to see and write up some amazing pieces along with the interviews with great and influential collectors. Hodinkee has really become quite a force in the watch world

I need one of these references to satiate my collecting for a while.
I would probably be saving money in the end! They are all gorgeous/
