HOT-HATCH ROADTRIP!!! Kinda. Sorta. Meh.
Picked up a Mk7 Golf R early last week, and decided to head up north of Kuala Lumpur for a 400km roadtrip. Went to drive through mountain passes with a friend.
From sort of the same family, all-wheel drive as well, except double the horsepower! But through tight mountain roads, I prefer the Mk7R; its smaller, much more nimble, and fun to power out of tiht hairpins. A few days later, on a spirited drive on a long stretch of highway, I spotted a silhouette of a 911 from afar. Worth a chase, I thought... especially if it was a 996 Carrera. Gave chase, caught up... and crap! It was a 991 Turbo S. After a brief chase, we went out separate ways... and my phone rang. It was a friend who had literally just picked up his new car earlier that morning! Of course, we met up over the weekend to swap cars for a couple of hours... Again, the Porsche has twice the horsepower and torque of the Golf, but from every great drive, as soon as I went back into the Golf, planted my foot into the throttle... still put a smile on my face. Mmm... reality sucks. Kinda |

Sounds like you like your golf, they are nice cars.......... I would take the Lambo or Porsche though if someone else was paying. I love my little 2011 Renault Clio RS as much as all the bigger faster cars I have had in the past. Hot hatch with a stick makes me happy, but does require lots of work.

Nice, i'm looking at getting the new 400BHP Golf R that is coming later this year.
Currently have a 2014 Fiesta ST which is the most fun hot hatch you can buy and beat the Mclaren P1 into second place in Top Gear car of the year. Massively fun car but Ford quality is terrible and i'm getting bored of it breaking all the time. |

I need to put in on my list of things to do. Get behind the wheel of a golf with juice.

Awesome, love hot hatches. Want a A45 but that'll never happen here in the US. Great pics, thanks for sharing.

There are ridiculous prices here in Asia due to taxes; the Mk7R is roughly €72k and you would shudder at the price of the Lambo and Porsche (easily 4-7 times the price of the Golf, when new) above
Lovely Clio RS above there. I've always had a thing for hot-hatches. Not much space, but plenty of pace and grace! The new R drives very well indeed. The gap between the GTI and the R in this Mk7 guise is far wider than in the Mk6, imo. Its a much more mature hot-hatch now, one that the missus can drive and approves (sort of!). Here's another quick pic: |
