Domed Back
I know that the Panerai Arktos & GMT North Pole have domed backs & get mixed reviews. I remember reading that someone lasted a week wearing an Arktos & sold it because it too uncomfortable.

For actual diving, it's probably a non-issue... now as for desk divers

This much I do know... creating an 800 lb. gorilla watch may be an amazing technical feat but I will never own one.
Somehow this reminds me of VW allocating all the resources it did to buy and develop the Bugatti Veyron while US sales are slumping and they are being outsold by virtually every Japanese auto maker even including the Korean Hyundai. Though intriguing, I'm not sure this watch is very practical.

Thats why I like it though. The total over-engineering. Bugatti made a loss on every Veyron made, so despite its $1m price tag you were actually getting a bit of a bargain. Doubt Rolex will be making a loss on each SDDS, but you are probably getting more for your money than paying the current price for a watch that to a greater or lesser extent hasn't changed for 25(?) years.
