Pictures. Hope you don't mind. Walk a bit down memory lane with me. The Winter of 1979 and 1980. Basic training and MP School in Alabama.

My squad's responsibility was to clean the latrine. Marines joined our platoon for AIT. PFC Woods and I after our December haircut. Our first taste of any food outside the chow hall in 10 weeks. Cardboard pizza down at the EM club with a cold Miller never tasted so great. Me being squashed my my squad mates. Nearly killed me. Haha!

Graduation. Our Senior Drill Instructor. CIB, Jump Wings. Vietnam combat patch , ribbons. Infantry. We respected that man. The night before we left allowed to wear civilian clothes.

Camp Casey and Camp Stanley Korea. 2nd Infantry Division. MP station at Camp Casey. Perhaps my proudest achievement in the military. The Provost Marshal chose me and hard stripped me to Corporal to go down to Camp Stanley and take over a 3 man MPI detail there.

Here are a couple of me. The first is basic training August 1977. The second and third are me preparing to fly on the C-141 Starlifter jet, and the fourth is right be before my retirement in Feb 2005.

Any words of advice making it from E7 to E9? It's a different world up here and I need all the help I can get!

I was bummed when they retired it because I recall nothing but great exits from the 141.

Sierra11B, I too was sad when they retired. I had many an airdrop (personnel and heavy equipment) from the Starlifter. I flew out of Charleston SC for 6 years and spent lots of time on Green Ramp at Pope dropping the 82nd. I did drops at Benning, Rangers from Stewart and Lewis, as well as Special tactics guys at Pope as well. Once did over 1600 money jumps at Pope over 5 days. Three lifts per day with 110 jumpers each lift. I was busy that week! :) Many Thanks to you and everyone else who has or is serving. Cheers, Tim

I'm surprised to hear they retired the 141. It was nice to walk instead of having to jump with all that equipment.

An old shot during Robin Sage. I'm the "counterinsurgent" in need of some new pants.

Mike, yes the last flight of the C-141 was May 6, 2006. They are all at the bone yard now except for a few that are static display aircraft at various bases. Most have been cut up for scrap by now. The newest model was a 1967 and they were getting harder and harder to keep flying, not to mention parts availability. I affectionately called it the "tube of pain" for being loud and cold most of the time, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time flying on them. Cheers and thanks for your service. Tim

P.S. here is a short video of the last flight. The last jet was 60177 from Wright-Patterson. It is the Hanoi Taxi that brought the POWs home from Vietnam in 1973. Many of the people flying on the jet's last flight were the surviving POWs from the 1973 flight.
