I Found Myself Involved With A Barn Find-Pictures

A friend of mine was at a show, unrelated to watches, and found a Rolex 1675. He texted me a picture. It was not running. The Serial Number was 5,13X,XXX which I figure had been made soon after 1977. The hands on the dial did not look pitted and the dial was amazing. It also had initials on the clasp.

The watch had belonged to a retired Police Officer that had died of cancer. He was the first owner of the watch and had his initials on the clasp. The watch had been in a safe for a while. The gentleman that had inherited the watch from his best friend, found himself remembering old times with his friend when he wore it. He found that too depressing so he decided to sell it.

It had a great price so I told Mike, he should get it and take it to Dalton for service. He told Dalton not to polish the watch.

I told Mike if he ever decides to sell it to let me know. I wanted first dibs.

We picked up the watch today from Dalton. It looked great. Once again Dalton had done a marvelous job. Dalton had replaced a few worn out parts (see picture) to make it like new inside. Mike had decided to leave the initials on the clasp to honor the Officer.

I thought we were going to get in a car accident on the way home; Mike looked at the watch so much. He really enjoyed it.

Mike is hard on watches. He said this is too nice a watch, not to keep nice. He looked at me asked me if I still wanted it.

I was surprised and said yes.

I am also going to keep the initials on the clasp in memory of the Officer.

The first picture is the one Mike sent me.

Awesome story. Did Dalton add the patina to the dial and hands or was the first photo just too bright and looked white?

Enjoy!
