is the 1601 datejust and 1803 DD case exactly the same?
I have a 1803 DD with case being in very badly condition.
I have seen 18k gold 1601 datejust for sale from time to time as a back up and was considering at one stage for a case replacement, but have always hesitated as the 1556 movement is slightly thicker than the 1575 mvt that comes in the datejust (don't mind the numbers being different as it is sentimental to me) My concern (and perhaps this is where Rikki can come to the rescue as well) is whether the 1803 case the same thickness and specs as the 1601 case because of the reason I mentioned? Are the thickness of both cases the same and would a 1556 mvt fit into a 1601case without any major modifications???? many thanks in advance to all!!! |

I doubt it. I know the outside seems different.

If it helps I have an 18038 and 16018, both 18k cases and the case dimensions are not the same. The 18038 is quite a bit thicker and the lugs are thicker too.

Thanks, what about earlier models?
The 1803 and the 18038 are also different in case dimensions as I also had a 18038. My mystery is the comparison of the 1803 case dimensions with the 1601 case as they may not have translated in size difference as their later models that replaced them. cannot find any data on the either!!!!,

I just "eyeballed" my 1601 and 1807 cases, and the 1807 definitely looks thicker. I presume the 1556 movement is "fatter" than the 1570?

The 1556 movement will not work in the 1601 case.
