Replacing h series 111, sandwich or painted dial?
Hi everyone,
I'd like to get some advice from the other members. I'm looking at replacing an H series 111 I traded. I'm presently looking at an F series painted dial. Can anyone tell me differences between the two series? Which dial is more desirable or is it simply personal preference? Thank you,

111g
The 111F is painted dial and I believe a normal size crown guard. The 111G is Painted dial with the larger brushed crown guard. The 111H is a sandwich dial.
The most sought after 111 in my opinion is the 111G. Good luck in your search. |

Thanks guys. The H sandwich dial is the one I had with the brushed crown guard. Does the F or G have a brushed or polished crown guard?

I'd definitely go painted - assuming you have at least one PAM with a sandwich dial in your existing collection. While both painted and sandwich are quite unique and very much part of OP's history, I think the Sandwich dial is "the one" (if you can only have one PAM...).
Back to the question at hand... as the wiseguys (...) of a certain Paneristi website recently noted, the perfect lineup is a 47mm 1940/1950 with sandwich dial and 44mm Luminor with painted, the latter representing the Pre-V era (1993-1997). Quote:
1. The polished, smaller CG is a direct facsimile of the Pre-V CGs 2. No one has been able to answer my question about CG-robustness; i.e. is the thicker (not larger) CG functionally better* ...? *Logically, it would seem to be, but as I treat all my "serious" watches with respect, I'm not all that overly-concerned about CG robusness and I'd rather have an all-polished, all pre-V representative E/F model

All this talk about how great the 111G is makes me feel that my 111E is unworthy and should be offloaded.

Quote:
Pre-Vs all have brushed (and presumably thicker?) CGs. For whatever reason, Vendome decided to "refine" the CGs but went back to the Pre-V style for their "historical" models starting with the G series. Sorry for the mixup!

If I'm not mistaken it's the combination of the bigger crown guard and Panerai stamped movement. It's your crow guard brushed or polished?
