I've been a visitor on this site for years now as watches, particularly Rolexes, are a big passion of mine. Over the years I've appreciated the insights of all the members on TRF. I feel like I've learned so much from all of you, thank you. Finally I have a question I could use some help with...

I recently acquired a late 1990s 36mm Datejust at a local charity silent auction. The watch has been meticulously cared for and was recently serviced however I noticed that it makes a tinking sound when it's gently shaken. Of course I know you're not supposed to shake the watch however this sound is also quite loudly audible during normal wear. It makes the sound when I holdi the bracelet still meaning the sound must be coming from inside the case, from what I can tell. Also note that the watch keeps time well within COSC standards and is otherwise in great shape and seems to run very well.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

They all make noise and we amplify anything in our own minds..

In all likelihood there is nothing wrong with your watch..

... or it could be a broken/worn rotor axle.
You should get it checked before it causes more damage. Just to be on the safe side... ;)

Welcome to TRF, hope you get to the bottom of the issue. Take it in to RSC if you are having issues.

Does not sound like a problem, my Sub bracelet makes a bit of a noise/rattle sound so it could be that sound as well but as Larry indicated it is most likely a rotor sound, and Rolex is far from sexy also the AP I have is similar in its industrial sound.

I wouldn't worry about it. My Sub bracelet makes what you could call a "tinking" sound quite often.
