Hands Question
Hello Group,
I have a 1999 Rolex Submariner 16610. Works great and I have no issues except one. The minute and hour hands no longer glow in the dark. The sweeping seconds hand and other markers are still bright but nothing from the hour/min. Has anyone ever heard of this? regards, Sam |

I should have also mentioned that the reason I'm concerned is that I would have expected all the hands to stop glowing around the same time?

'99 was a changeover year. Your Sub should have Luminova hands that glow when exposed to light.
If it is actually earlier and has tritium, the hands and the dial may not have been painted with the same mix and could vary quite a bit. The other possibility is that the hands or dial have been changed at some point in time.

is it possible that Rolex used the older hands with a luminova face? The face markings are very bright when charged with light but not the hands.
Since I'm the second owner i can't account for any replacements but I cant imagine they would have needed to be replaced being relatively new. Do the hands tarnish or degrade to a point of needing to be replaced? |
