Michael: Well, I agree with about everything you've said in your starting post on this thread. But,

I have some evil, tempting news for you. You can buy USED rolex watches near or at true wholesale, at the upcoming 2008 NAWCC 63rd Convention from June 11-14, 2008 at Springfield, Missouri at the Springfield Exposition Center. I am told the Pre-Convention Action is where all the dealers will do their 'deal dance.' Now, if you were to get there early......

Great post! I think you finally voiced what many of us have gone through or are going through. I too flipped or traded "up" for a while and started wondering if it was worth when adding up the cash that was added to each trade to get what I "thought" I really wanted.

In a "I want it yesterday" society it's difficult to be patient. Save some money and don't buy another watch until you can afford the one you know you will keep for a long time, possibly forever.

You're so right on all points. Such an insane hobby for the everyday working stiff. The things we do for Rolex. You'll get what you want soon enough. To paraphrase your words: "...Nothing feels quite as good than strapping on a Rolex...."

Wise advise, Michael. I did the same thing over the years with several nice highly collectible guitars. I still have regrets to this day over letting many a fine piece go because of my desire for the next thing that caught my fancy. Flipping can be a double edged sword if you let lust for something new force you to to dispose of something you once held dear. The good news is that you have learned this lesson early. Now Grasshopper, apply this lesson to everything in your life.

Don't feel bad about not currently owning a Rolex.

I myself am a serial flipper as you might now and have been without a Rolex watch for some periods.

In fact, when I joined TRF in April 2007, I was "between Rolex watches". Since then I got a few.

You will get a Rolex again, no doubt about that.

Gotta agree with you. TRF rocks big time!

If you plan on keeping the PO, then that's fine. You do realise that the hit you take on a PO, if you do decide to sell it, will be much more than the hits you've taken on your Rollies.

I would have just lay low for a while until I could get my hands on my dream Rolex.

Just my 2 cents.

Good post Michael, and good lessons learned, maybe even worth the loss over the flipping. My high-end watch purchases (over $250) have always been a long, deliberate, thought-out process, except my Expy2, which was an extension and culmination of previous processes. I've never sold a watch and hope I never will.

Been there. Done that. I have no interest in buying any more watches for the time being. I am absolutely, positively done with flipping. I am happy with my sub date as it does everything I need in a watch.

I know how you feel Micheal.
While i will never flip my oyster date for sentimental reasons i REALLY want another Rolex!!!
6 weeks ago i got a lovely letter from the tax man telling me i'd over paid last year and was due a rebate of £3k ($6k).

Now you can get an awful lot of Rolex for that.
However the next week i get a date for my hernia operation and will need that money to tide me over till i'm back on my feet.

So the cheque dropped on the mate yesterday and i can't drive for 2 weeks so the wife has put it the joint account.

Guess i'll have to save!!
