Rolex Tudor

Not an expert opinion but here are my first thoughts...

Pros - Should be reasonably priced, looks nice, Prominent Rolex markings even though a Tudor

Cons - 34mm is quite small, acrylic crystal can scratch easier than synthetic sapphire, the dial has been refinished.

Not sure about the original dial design. It has both Rolex and Tudor markings and also the word "Submariner" which kind of looks out of place although I don't know if that's how they were made.

Thanks for the advice. I notcied the Tudors have the Rolex one the crown and caseback but I did not know that having Rolex and Tudor on the Dial was not possible. Thank you for the help. If anyone has an older watch like this one that you would recomend please let me know. I do like the looks of these "vintage" ones.

I wouldn't actually call it a fake You see lots of Tudors with Rolex added to the dial. I mean it still says Tudor so it's not like you don't know going in. Besides, it says Rolex on the back and the crown, whats the harm in adding it to the face

I sort of agree with you but I guess the Purist Rolex would call it a fake and I respect that view also.

Well maybe not a total fake but it sure is one mixed-up mess of a watch. Steer well clear IMHO.

Rolex and Tudor are two totally different watches, for them both to be written on the dial is completly off.

Have any of you guys done the Ebay thing? It seems that for what I am looking for, "Rolex Oyster" from the 60's-70's, it seems that ebay for selection might be the best way to go.

Of course I would love a Sub but my budget constraints keeps me in the <$1200 range and I do like the older Rolex that is just simple function. I dont do a lot of diving but it will be getting wet.

Ebay doesn't always get a good report on this forum but if your budget is limited it is ok. I have bought and sold quite a few watches on ebay and not had any problems. The big thing is to research the model first and always, always, always check out the seller and make sure they have lots of good feedback.

My advice is to hold onto your money and save for the watch you really want. If you really want a sub, you may find that you don't connect with something else.

A Sub would be nice but it seems everywhere I look I see one now and I dont like just to have what everyone else has. I like the black face of the early explorers and or any other oysters and when trying on the Sub it did feel large and heavy on my wrist. I love the look but sometimes I feel the Sub Screams look I have a rolex when I am just getting one for me.

Please anyone that has a Sub do not take offence as if I could afford to have multiple Rolexs I would most certainly have one. I just for some reason like that vintage classic look.

In the item description its says that the dial is refinished...I'm inclined to agree with other postings that to have both Rolex & tudor on the dial is abit odd .

It does make me wonder what else is refinished and by who ?

IMO I think you would be wise to stay away

It`s not fake,it`s re-dialed!
It could be in very good good condition,but that re-finished dial makes it`s value decreasing.
I got one of those re-dialed Tudors and it looks very nice and serves me well...

I'm looking at a similar one. The problem I'm having so far with my own purcahse would echo an earlier comment. The dial is refinished, because Rolex made the Tudor line and it makes it more marketable. This is very, very common. To a purist it is a dealbreaker but if you want a nice watch for under a grand. Also, it's not like the guy is trying to totally defraud as he/she admits to the the band and the dial.


I am, however, doing it in person. I bougt my wife's rolex from an AD after reading this site for a few weeks. I feel much more confortable.

Hey toxicant, what are you drinking, as I never heard of such a thing as a partial fake. I've been fighting this Tudor/Rolex dial controversy with ebay forever, and the supposed Tudors dialed as a Rolex Tudor are fake watches.

These watches are usually Tudors that someone is trying to pass-off as a Rolex to enhance its value, as many people don't know the difference; to include a forum member that started this thread.

Never was, never will be such a watch. There is no such thing as a Rolex Tudor model. Tudor is a watch brand, just like Rolex. Rolex just happens to own and manufacture the Tudor brand of watches, just like Heuer manufactured many other branded watches in the 50's, 60's and 70's.

A simple analogy is like comparing a Toyota and Lexus. A Toyota Camray will never be a Lexus, no matter how many Lexus logos you put on it, but they are both owned by Toyota and surely have parts labeled Toyota on both cars.

Well, there it is, now I'm going to go and have a drink!
