Successor to 3135?

The newly released Datejust Pearlmaster 39 is equipped with a new generation 3235 movement.
I wonder if all 3135 movements will be phased out in favor of the 3235.

I hope so, having bought a SubC 9 months ago, it's a bit annoying.

It's possible, but the new Yachtmaster they showcased still has the 3135

IMO, it's just a matter of time Rolex will upgrade the power reserve from 50 to 70 hours.

I wonder what Padi thinks about the description of this new calibre? Perhaps Rolex should double check all their movements once returned from COSC.

I too think it will take a long time, when it is time to revise the design they will put the new movement in and raise the price

I agree. I don't see this movement being introduced without a price hike.

If I am not mistaken the DJII has a 3136 movement which has the in house shock system. The 36mm DJ, Sub, YM, SD etc all had the 3135. The 3186 never filtered down into the other models. I am not sure if this was a similar situation to the exp 2 and GMT where the 3187 won’t fit inside the GMT as its larger or if Rolex knew they were going to start rolling out all this new movement tech starting with the new DDII. If it’s the later then I would expect next year a DJ40 with a new movement then for it to filter through the rest of the range.

Also worth mentioning here that the new 39mm OP gets the 3132 with in house shock system out of the Exp 1. However the other OP models still have the 3130.

Successor to 3135?

This is news - I think they will phase out gradually. 2 new rolex movements launched at the same time is so unlike them! I think Jean-Frédéric Dufour has speeded things up just as he did for Zenith 😁

They have mentioned that these new movements will be subjected to Rolex's +3/-2 sec a day testing. I wonder whether the older movements will be adjusted to those specifications as well

Once the machine park has the capacity to produce on full speed all models will get them gradually. Production should not be more costly than for the previous one.

That's my hope.

Maybe with a smaller case they will bring back the jubilee bracelet too.

Announced chf prices for the new Daydate 40mm are exactly the same than the prices for corresponding Daydate II.

DD 40 / DD2 41 :
PT - 59,600 chf
RG - 35,800 chf
YG - 33,200 chf
WG - 35,800 chf

The new DD uses the new generation caliber 3255 with no price change, so we can expect it will be the same when the new DateJust 40 with 3235 will be introduced.

3255 as well as 3235 are just the two 1st variations of a new generation of Rolex movement, with the base caliber being the 3230 ... to come later.

If I was a betting man, this is where I'd put my money. I'm not though, and with Rolex, you just never know.

Probably less of a chance of this happening, but you never know. I wouldn't discount it at this point.

The 3235 will eventually make its way to all 3 hand date sports models. I also see a 3285 GMT in the near future

Rolex likely has a billion 3135 movements sitting around as replacements, for repairs and for new watches. To see this filter into the standard pro line will take a decade or two, maybe more. Not holding my breath, although it would be nice to have this in my Deepsea.

In really comparing. the only real improvement is power reserve, everything else is just marketing mumbo jumbo, perhaps an attempt at responding to Omega's amagnetic movements. In my opinion Omega has done a better job at this.

That's quite a statement... There's more improvements, that are actually not "marketing mumbo jumbo..." Perhaps a bit more reading will get you there...

So if they do introduce a datejust 40 next year, how much would that devalue the DJ2? I was thinking about picking up a DJ2 this year, but don't want it to devalue. Should I just hold off perhaps for a year? I know it's all speculation at this point....

The 3136 doesn't have a different number because of the anti shock system, it's because of a different position of the date due to the bigger case of the DJ2.

So is 3235 going to be that much better than the 3135? I don't know why there isn't more discussion going on about this. I still don't know much or anything that is going to be a game changer. I remember when the Omega went from ETA to 8500 everyone was going crazy.
