Grief for wearing Rolex...........

A lot of people post here about co-workers, friends, family etc giving them grief for wearing a Rolex. Most people don't recognize Rolex when the see it, I agree there are exceptions. Just an opinion but, if you are getting grief from people it just could be because you pointed out that you are wearing a Rolex and you brought it to someone's attention. as stated above, just an opinion. I know most Rolex wearer's are proud of their watch, but if it goes unmentioned it could just as well go un-noticed.

Actually in real life there is no such thing. I believe people who post these kinds of story are those who are either imagining things or they are actually not ready to be a Rolex owner. They buy their Rolex thru 100 year financing and then deep down inside they feel guilty about the purchase. This inner guilt is the root of all those negative suspicions like people are jealous, people are about to get them and mug them, people are pushing them away....etc etc etc. Everything starts from the inside.

Agreed. IMHO less than 1% of people even bother to look and I really don't think people look so they can give you grief. Much more likely to get a WIS noticing and then either no comment or something positive.

I may have had two people comment on my watch in 7 years i have had it, and those said, "nice watch" and then at closer look noticed it was a rolex, only other people I have had notice it are fellow Rolex wearers......;)
I just wear it, I don't really care if anyone notices it on not.

If you got deep pockets, and you go buy a $5,000+ Rolex Sub then thats your business. Most people will never look at it or even care. Its on you. Thats why we have this great forum to express our passions for the watch and vent.

Only watch lovers....or the jealous! However the jealous have there own hobbies or needs that cost as much or more than a Rolex!

This only seems to be a problem for men. Women can get away with wearing tens of thousands of dollars in jewelry with no issue. For me, it is an accessory, an item of jewelry for men that is acceptable to wear in a business environment, when other jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, rings - aside from a wedding/class ring) are considered unacceptable. AND, it tells time too!

I would never 'finance' a luxury purchase; if one ever has to finance such a thing they must be in serious trouble

Apart from that, my family and extended members such as cousins are aware of my watch obsession. I guess it is due to this fact that they seem to keep a close eye on what I'm wearing, I have no idea why!

As Thomas stated, it's a good side that no one else has ever commented on my watches, I just don't go flashing them about - quite the contrary, they stay hidden under my sleeve

I can understand a new Rolex wearer feeling a bit self-conscious until they get used to it. Been there myself. No need to bash the newbie...

Now I wear what I want when I want without a second thought.

I agree that wearing a great watch with a long sleeved shirt is a good idea for protection of the timepiece. IMO there is no greater style statement than the sight of a great watch peeking out from under the cuff. It's about stealth. It smacks of intrigue... Don't even get me started... Larry.

I wear what I wear, for me!!!!! In my opinoin there is no "other" jewelry that is considered unacceptable. Unless you are unsecure in your own self worth.

There are certain people who will notice and recognize a fine timepiece. Salespeople at jewelery stores and salespeople at luxury automobile dealerships are a few examples. Rolex is certainly the most recognizable luxury brand, and that is probably one of the reasons we like them so much. There are certainly more expensive watches out there, yet the casual observer wouldn't know it from a fashion watch from the mall. My wife meets vendors and customers all the time, and she comes home telling me how many of which Rolex model she saw in the meeting today. She notices other peoples Rolex, and they notice hers. The Fed-Ex rep for my company drives a new Mercedes-Benz, he used to drive a Lexus. People notice these things.

i've had a few lookers at my 16800 3035 but most people here in philly depending on which hood your in they probably thinks it's fake anyway. so it really doensn't matter to me if the see it or not. i know it's the real deal!
