FS: 1969 Rolex 1016 Explorer- Killer Patina!
Just got this piece in and I figured I would offer it up here before putting it on ebay. Its a 1969 Rolex 1016 Explorer. It has a 2 million Serial number and a 1-71 stamped 7836 Folded link Bracelet.
These are not easy to find and with a dial like this it is unique. This is a Matte Dial, which is correct for 1969, not a Gilt Dial. (Boy, don't I wish it was!) It has a uniform deep mustard patina and the dial is just starting to make the turn to Brown. Hard to see in photos but, next to a pure black dial you can see the difference clearly. Any specs of white or what appears to be damage in the photos is just dust or lint. Dial has no visible damage. Hands and dial are all original tritium NOT relumed and nothing glows in the dark anymore, which is expected for a nearly 50 year old watch. Tritium is solid, no cracking, in great shape. Hands themselves do have some surface/superficial chrome pitting, which I personally love as it adds to the character and authenticity of the watch. Case appears to be unpolished but, I cant tell for sure. The lug holes are perfectly round and the case has some nice age to it, so if it has been polished it hasnt been in a long time. Also, so minor nicks and dings that most collectors look for in a vintage case. (see photos) Caseback is stamped 1016 and has a 69 date stamp. Original. All engravings are clearly visible with the naked eye, both the serial and the model numbers. Bracelet is in very good condition with 12 links and tight with 258 end links. Watch is running strong and keeping time. I have no records of service history and no warranty is being made for the accuracy of the watch. I will guarantee everything is 100% genuine Rolex or your money back. I want $9500 Fedex shipped anywhere in the world for this one. If you happen to be coming to NY for the IWJG show this Monday, I can hand deliver it to you at the show. NO PAYPAL EVER. I'm not a fan of PP, so its Bank Wire or COD. Thanks for looking!
