Buyer's Remorse - Daytona

I'm a new member to TRF, but I would already like to ask you guys for some advice. Just purchased a Rolex 116520 Daytona with a white dial. It is a fine piece, but I am having second thoughts.

I'm 25 - a fairly junior guy in a corporate environment that is a bit conservative. My small collection has both a stainless datejust and a patek 5127. My main concern is that this watch will garner major attention if I wear it to work - can't afford a daytona as just a weekend watch. I don't want to be thought of as arrogant or flashy, especially as I am coming off a recent promotion (happened after the daytona hunt was underway).

Have any of you ever had similar thoughts? I can return the watch now for a full refund, but as I get it ready to ship back I fear that in the future I may regret giving up such a good specimen. On the other hand I think it is good to not stick out for these kind of reasons in the professional world. Any wisdom you all may be able to give would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I think the 116520 is low key compared to what some people wear. Yes the PCL are blingy, but the entire watch has a toned down look. Maybe the black dial would have been a bit more stealthy, but I honestly do not think it is any different than wearing your said Datejust (which I can only assume also has PCL?)

Trust me keep it, you won't regret it. This is a grail for many many people you are going to kick yourself if you return it. Even if you pick another model, the most low key sports watch would be an EXP I, EXP II or Sub-C, which each have its own attention grabbing features.

First off, congrats! The white dial 116520 is gorgeous!

I echo the comments above. Do you wear your DJ and/or Patek to work? Most people don't even notice. If anyone wants to say anything, just say it was a gift or it's fake. Like Sol said, I thought the same way, compared to other Rolexes and other brands even the Daytona is fairly low key, under the radar type of watch. Most of the time it may be tucked under your shirt cuff anyways.

Keep it. It's not as noticeable as you think. No precious metals. Just a stainless steel sports watch. Aficionados will recognize it. For most, though, it won't jump out as much as some other Rolex models.

There's no shame in having good taste.

Your behavior will mean more than what you wear.

Well said!

I think any Rolex with a cyclops will get more attention than one without. People see the cyclops and think "Rolex". They see a Daytona and think...well they probably don't think anything at all.

Its not like you are driving a brand new Aston to work tomorrow.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Wear it weekends until you are used to it. Then you will lose you self consciousness about it and once you feel natural wearing it, you can pull it off.

Great watch!

Why have doubts? You can return it for a full refund, so, do it, and pick it up later when you can fully enjoy it. Whether your concerns are justified is besides the point - this is a hobby that is supposed to be fun, but it can also cost a lot of money. Do what feels right.

Life is too short to worry about what others think, just wear it if it makes you happy.

I agree on keeping it. The Daytona is kind of an under the radar Rolex IMHO mainly because it's a chrono so it looks like just about every other chrono out there - subdials and pushers.

If you're concerned about negative feedback, that ship aleady left the harbor with the DJ and PP currently in your barn. No mistaking the DJ as a Rolex and though the Patek is probably more unrecognizable, if someone does figure out what it is you're toast, LOL. And if you're rotating these watches at work then the Daytona is not the thing that's gonna stand out, it's the fact you are wearing a different high end piece everyday that makes that statement.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Bingo! x2

Eventually you won't give a crap what people say or see what's on your wrist.

Or just wear it on weekends and vacations you'll appreciate it even more when you haven't worn such a beautiful watch for periods of time.

I would keep it- such a great watch. I think people notice our watches far less than we think they do, particularly in "conservative" work environments. And even if people do notice, as long as you're not making a big deal about it, they probably won't either.

Cat's out of the bag already with the DJ. Joe Public believes the DJ costs big money due to the cyclops and iconic reputation. You already own the PP Aquanaut which is the ultimate below-the-radar watch. Adding a Daytona fits right in between the DJ and PP5127. Keep it!
