Having a "BALL!"
My Ball Engineer II arrived this afternoon. Just got back from having it sized; I'm very pleased! A big shout out to Andy - andrel712000. Everything about this watch is exactly as he described. He answered all of my questions and then some. Watch arrived promptly and was well packaged. I'd gladly do business with him again. Highest recommendations. Thank you, Andy!

Thanks, guys. It's not as bright as I thought it would be, Judy. I can read it just fine in the dark though, so no biggie as far as I'm concerned. I could be way off here, but I'm thinking Ball may be embellishing the night pics just a bit on some of their models. The watchmaker who sized it had a new T25 Ball in his display case, same lume rating but different model. I asked if we could compare the two with his UV scope and the lume was pretty much the same on both, which put my mind at ease. He said the Trainmaster and Fireman models are the brightest. This sucker is a tank! It's about as heavy as my Wenger GST Sea was, but very comfortable.

Thanks! The lume is better than I originally thought. I woke up briefly around 4 this morning and the markers were standing out nicely. The problem lies with my 57 year old eyes; wasn't giving them enough time to adjust. I really wouldn't want it any brighter than it is.

I feel your pain, Andy. I sold my Wenger GST Sea around 10 years ago. The gent who bought it started sending me pics of it on a nice leather strap along with several other nice pieces. I felt the regret washing over me as I gazed at it. Going to replace it one day.

I went for my daily three mile walk tonight wearing my Ball. I noticed that the lume has easily doubled in brightness since. I'm not in the least bit knowledgeable about this technology, but I'm thinking the movement of my arm must have agitated the tritium in the tubes. Makes sense being the watch hasn't been worn till now. I have to retract what I said earlier about the possibility of Ball doctoring their night photos. On another note, I set it at 5:23pm on the 10th and it's gained only 7 seconds since. Pretty decent timekeeping for a watch that isn't COSC certified. I'm loving this Ball!

Great watch. As for lume, I've owned perhaps 5 or 6 various models. I recall getting my first and running into a dark room and being underwhelmed. I think really it's because you are used to traditional painted lume like superluminova where they are much brighter initially but die off over time in the dark. Tritium on the other hand consistently is at the same brightness and you are correct your eyes must adjust at first. Without fail, you wake up at 4 am and the watch is going super strong. It's just when you compare it to the initial brightness from superluminova that it seems less bright. My Trieste is still among my most worn pieces!!

pretty impressed with Ball after handling a few of their watches in store. My next purchase will be the Aviator III.

Found this older thread and for the record, thought I would set the record straight as to the t-25. t100 business. Time was the conventional wisdom was that 25 millcuries was the legal limit in the USA. One of my team members actually READ THE STATUTES (believe me this is no easy task) and proved to the NRC that their interpretation of their own laws were faulty. Therefore we produced "up to" 100 millcurie watches for the first time. This followed by a lot of other watch companies.
Keep this in mind, all T25 watches are not necessarily a full 35 millicuries. A watch marked t25 can have "up to" 25 MC. And a watch marked just "T" or T100 has BETWEEN 25 adn 100 MC. So their will be differences. Cheers! Jeff |
