Bracelet Stretch: How Much Is Too Much? ("JJ, Call Your Office!")

In question is a ca. 1989 fliplock Oyster bracelet on a 5513. I cannot get a U.S. dime between any links, but there is noticeable stretch.

How much stretch is okay before there is risk of bracelet failure?

Hi Mark,

With such a post and such a query, we definitely need some pictures - good pics of your bracelet would help us determine how much stretch there is!!

Just spent 3 hours trying to take a decent pic. Now can't upload to photobucket.

Aside from the fact that I'm an idiot, what's wrong here?

Well, you're living in LA and have questionable taste in movies.

It's more likely to be a problem with upload speed with your ISP. Try compressing the image to under a neg and try again.

....the dime thingy is okay, but.... if you CLOSELY examine the THICKNESS of the metal in the curvature where the center link connects to the next link, you will be able to tell if the metal is literally worn thin OR merely is literally stretched. Take a close look at your band and you will see what I am referring to. If it is MARKEDLY thinner than the area that starts to straighten, then it is time to replace it. Otherwise, it should be good to go and just watch the wear in that area of the center links. Hope this helps.

The bands that you really need to watch are the 7835/7836 bands as the link structure is a bit different than a screw link band.

Does anyone know if a pic can be added to a reply for explanation of something like this??

Sincerely, Stan.

Klink,

You s.o.b., give me the TRF link to HOW TO POST A PIC. Then, I might start liking you again (even though you really ought to give up all this business about dressing up in your mother's ball gowns).

BTW, when I'm on Photobucket, I hit "choose upload" blah blah blah, and nothing happens. Huh?

Marrk

P.S. Did I mention that Robt. Culp is wearing a GMT Master in _Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice_? Also driving an E-type.

Here's a not-so-good pic of the same watch, a 5513.

Keep quiet about the ball gowns will ya? My mother will go nuts. Got any red patent heels in a 12E?

"Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice"? Isn't Alan Alda in that movie? I've been trying to forget everything I ever saw with Alda in it.
