Good question. I live in Milan, a big town in northern Italy, and I wear my Rolex GMT-II, Tudor Areonaut or Breitling Navitimer every day. And many people, in Italy, wear their expensive watches as well. But, of course, take care, and look around, expecially in summer (if you wear t-shirts, for instance), expecially in the evening or during the night, if you're alone, and far from the centre. Some towns are safer than others, and Italy isnt worse than many other countries in the world. Just avoid to "show" expensive watches or jewels in "inappropriate" places and in "wrong" hours. Of course, a gold Rolex will attire even "wrong" glances. But remember that the majority of people you'll meet in our country appreciate and wear beautiful and expensive things, including watches (and Rolex, of course!).

I live in Europe - and the only time I wear my Rolex - is when I am in the US. US is the safest place on earth. No guns, no thefts. Simply just the best and safest place on mother earth to wear a Rolex.

Why is Italy so scary? Must be all the pizzas.

I have been practically everywhere in Italy, wear it you won't have a problem. There are pickpockets on trains but so does most cities. If you think like this you will end up not wearing not wearing your Rolex out the house.

You need to use common sense mate.

Wear your Rolex happily on the sea front for lunch in Cannes or Puerto Banus but be more careful
at 3am on your way back to the hotel after a night drinking in London,Prague or Naples.

It's a shame i have to share this with you but you did ask.

It's funny - these things never even occurred to me until I started reading these forums. I wore my Rolexes everywhere, doing everything, and never gave it a second thought.
I'm in this same boat.

Its about calculating the risk, you can be the victim of crime anywhere.
Hide your watch if you don't want to heighten the risk of loss.
After a burglary I would never keep watches at home again, but does that mean I will not wear a watch at home....no.

In Milan, as well as in Rome, in business occasions, you'll be surrounded by italians with expensive watches..... ;-)

Nooooo. Wearing a Rolex in Europe is just plain stupid and unheard of.

No one in europe wears a rolex, they have no ADs or shops that sell them.
They're made in switzerland and shipped straight out of europe to the USA, which, as everyone knows is the safest place on earth where no one ever gets shot or robbed..

I have worn my Rolexes in countries around the world. Just don't be a show off and everything will be fine. If you can't enjoy your watch then why have it?

Look, what is it with Americans asking about whether its safe to travel in Europe? You live in America, one of the most violent places in the world! According to United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime the US ranks as the 91 murdering...est country in the world, above such fine places as Russia, Colombia and Pakistan.
If you don't think the US is a dangerous hell pit, then Europe probably wont be either as there is generally less crime and poverty there. Just don't flash expensive things in front of poor people, but I assume you wouldn't go to a poor place in town in the US either?

(Disclaimer: statistics like the above are pretty worthless, and I'm sure the EU fares worse in other types of crime statistics, but my point still stands)

Italians appreciate the finer things in life , you will not be alone wearing a Rolex. Nothing to worry. Just enjoy the trip .

But like in any major city all over the world you have to take a little care about your surroundings and not wander into the wrong neighbourhood. With or without a Rolex you can get into trouble.

I think you should enjoy your watch and your holiday to "Europe"

No, Kazakhstan is a part of Asia, which has a borderline with Russia and China.

Part of Kazakhstan, west of the Ural River, is officially in Europe

Wow, you guys sure can be trolled easily. Someone with almost no posts and a vague designation of "Carlsbad" says something silly and it's an indictment of every "American", which if I were being as pedantic as some on this thread I would point out encompasses many more countries than the U.S. A little sensitive it seems.

Yes, I know. But it is only a tiny portion of the entire country.

I live in Europe and to be honest it's not very safe. So I don't normally wear my watch outside. Safe travels and be wise...it's a dangerous world out there.

Whenever you are in an unfamiliar place always be extra aware and if in any doubt just take your watch off, that's what the clasp is for.
