Thoughts on ALS Lange 1 Timezone (Gold vs. Platinum)
Wanted to get your thoughts on the desirability of the ALS Lange 1 Timezone in Platinum vs. Yellow/Rose/Pink Gold. Any purchase would be pre-owned to avoid the huge depreciation on purchase.
I do not own any precious metal pieces, only SS. While I have wanted a gold watch, the allure of a reasonably priced ALS piece in platinum has me thinking. Perhaps I should purchase this and then in the future buy a YG/RG piece. Since certain brands are better known for working with certain materials. What are your thoughts on platinum Lange's vs. gold? Any thoughts on this? I know it is a very individual decision. Thanks for any help! |

As you say a very personal choice when it comes to metal. I prefer Lange in white metal to keep the whole German clean and simple aesthetic going.
That said, I can't recommend changing metals because you feel one is a better value. This sort of thing only leads to flipping down the road to get what the heart wants. Have fun choosing as this is a stunning watch in all metals |

Personal choices and everyone has different taste. For me I own my favorite combo which is no longer made the RG with grey dial and it is stunning! Lange makes great watches regardless of metal choice so one can't lose no matter which you choose. I will say that YG not very popular choice for Lange watches so stick to Rg, WG or Plat. Cheers,

Lange in Platinum is perfect. Especially when it has blue hands. But their RG finish is exquisite too.

My favorite metal for the timezone is RG, with the grey dial it's a stunner, but I think it's hard to come by, a TRF member got one recently, you can see his pics in the ALS thread.
But if the dial is another color than grey in that case PT is the best IMO |

Plat for the sports and for the "special" watches, RG for the more dressy models IMHO.

By the way Arnaud the one you show on Chrono24 has a damaged dial and I wouldn't touch it of course as you won't be able to replace the dial. It is a hot combo though and my personal favorite but also very tough to find as less than 100 were made and it has been discontinued since 2012. Knowing the OP won't be able to find this combo I would suggest at his price getting the platinum one as he won't find a better deal IMHO.

If the watch was of interest to the OP, I'd ascertain the "detailed and serviced" aspect, since if it's been 'detailed', then it should be better than a Fine (2) condition, IMO. With the right sort of negotiating, it should be cost neutral to have the dial and casework made perfect again, either as part of the deal or by sending it in afterwards. At least it's backed by the seller's own 2-year service warranty. |

When I think of Lange I think of platinum/WG and black/almost blue dials.
