Has anyone dealt with Alan Furman in MD?
www.alanfurman.com
I am in the market for either GMT Master II or Explore II and price difference between AF and local Jeweler is about $1400. has anyone dealt with Alan Furman at all? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Andrew |

I would not go there... A friend had a bad experience and if it were me I would rather give the business to a US dealer. My warranty will be through Rolex USA, and not some guy in the back room somewhere. Try to find an AD that will work with you a little on the price to bring it closer to being worth it.
If price is the main thing you might get a better deal though. For me, when Im spending this kind of money its just not worth it. You never know what happened to the watch from when it left an AD in some other country to when it reached their place. GT |

FWIW, Furman is a US dealer with a brick and mortar store. Grey market guys bring out some strong opinions here on TRF, but I've done business with Furman (a gent named Dan) and was very pleased. I was not so pleased with the AD (cough, Adlers of New Orleans, cough). But then I knew zero when I bought from the AD and was working my way to WIS-hood when I bought from Furman and that may have had something to do with it.
Would I buy from Furman again? You betcha... Edited to add - My beef with the AD? I bought a Sub Date and a Lady DJ with diamond markers and while not the most expensive things here on TRFland, I did pay full price (my ignorance, about $13k US for both) and just haven't gotten the love on return visits. Maybe I need to spend more with them, but Dan at Furman was more helpful to me before I even made a purchase.

Furman's is a Grey Market Dealer, so their watches come from the excess stock of other AD's, usually from Asia, and do not have the Rolex Warranty. Furman, however, has their own watchmakers and offers an in-house warrenty...I believe for the life of the time-piece.. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them if you are looking at Grey Dealers.

And keep in mind. Even though it doesn't have a rolex warranty doesn't mean you can't ship / take it to a RSC and get it fixed. They will just charge you. (same as you would after the warranty period is up afte ryou bought one from an AD.)
Just food for thought. |

I have never dealt with them personally but I have seen many positive accounts related by TRF members. I would say they have a good reputation from everything I have heard.

I bought 3 Rolexs from Alan Furman.
Great price and great service. Never a problem. Call ahead to see what selection they have available in the vault. They can get you anything, but if you want to window shop, call ahead.

Welcome to TRF!
As stated, most of us would agree that Alan Furman is a reputable and legit "grey dealer"... For peace of mind and full benefit of the warranty, though, personally, I'd prefer buying from an AD only. Alone the fact that you can inspect the watch thoroughly before "plodging down a cent on the table" as JJ says is worth it for me. Also, you can get a discount at some AD's. It's just a matter of searching and using your negotiation skills. Best of luck!

I have a motto, don't buy anything in on-line!!! You can really look to the thing that you want to buy. Just my humble opinion.

AF is local to me. I have not bought a watch from them but I may in the near future. I have two friends that have purchased a number of watches there and they speak very highly of the place. One wanted a special watch for his wife that took some time to locate. During the process the watch jumped in price and SF had to pay more to get it. They "ate" the difference and never even asked to revise the promised price agreed to before the increase.
