What do you think? Rolex 16713 Root Beer on Jubilee
Friends,
A root beer 16713 on a Jubilee bracelet is on my long term "wanted" list. I've discovered this one available for about $ 5500, though I hope to get it down a bit. I consider this a good price so I am strongly considering it. The seller describes it as an E serial, circa 1991, gently worn and recently inspected and overhauled by a certified Rolex technician. The deal includes a Rolex box (though not consistent with the watch's period), but no manuals or papers. So any thoughts or observations about the authenticity of the watch based on these pics. It seems alright to me, but I am admittedly not an expert on this model. We're both in the NY Metro area, so I am considering asking him to meet in NYC and include the paperwork memorializing that it was overhauled recently. I'll also get a local guy to inspect it briefly at my expense. But I want to avoid all that if there's something wrong with the watch as a threshold matter based on the pics. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I would try to get something knocked off for the box, leave it with the seller, and use the savings to buy a period correct one. Say $100.

Thanks, fellas. I sent him an email with some threshold questions before the weekend:
1. Are you the original owner? 2. You write that it was serviced recently. Was it at a rolex service center? Do you have the service paperwork? 3. Is the watch all rolex original, and if not what are the aftermarket parts? I'm particularly interested in the dial, crystal, crown, bezel, bezel insert, and bracelet. 4. What's the story with the box? 5. Are there significant scratches in the case? How about the crystal? So far no answer but it's a holiday weekend so let's see how he responds. I tend to think it looks good, too. I'll ask for more pics and I'm not interested in the box, and if we get that far, have him come to the city, have a watch guy check it out for me, and just make it a cash deal.. I'll let you know. Thanks again! Vinnie

I wonder if the gold part of the band is Rolex. At any rate, the band looks pretty stretched out. If you can authenticate, the watch itself is pretty cool !

Watch looks completely legit, you don't need us to tell you it looks like it has lived some life and the jubilee always stretches out but it looks fine to me.

Thanks, guys. The seller replied to me but didn't answer most of my questions directly. He did offer to come into town and let my guy authenticate it, though I didn't broach the subject. Maybe he saw my post here. Anyway, I'm thinking about it.
Great advice guys, thanks!

Anytime a seller doesn't directly answer questions, my horeshit detector goes off. Maybe its the cynic in me or the fact that people in this world never seem to let an opportunity to country rape someone go by......present company excluded obviously. I'm just saying, how difficult is it to answer your questions with clear concise adult like answers? Maybe rephrase them and send again before you waste time meeting him

I've been patient for one of these to come up, so waiting longer isn't a big deal.

Fellas,
Just an update. I decided to pass. Just too much trouble. When it's time I'll seek out some Trusted Sellers and work something out through familiar channels. Thanks again! Excelsior!
