If Rolex did a limited edition of the Challenge, I'm sure there would be plenty of well heeled customers that would buy it purely for collectivity and exclusivity reasons, not necessarily to wear it.

I only want THE Deepsea Challenge - the one that actually went down to the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

Actually, I think 2-3 of them went down. One on te robotic arm that reache out and collected specimens, one was attached to the body of the Deepsea Challenger, and I think there was also a third somewhere else on or in the vessel.

Either one is good enough for me. :D

Heck, I'll also take the DSSD that was on Cameron's wrist too.

Where? Rolex's marketing material clearly states it as "experimental".

I'm inclined to agree w/ KDUB... in the neighborhood of 25-30k, and I think it will be extremely limited, i.e... kind or like a PAM203... sold out to the inner circle even before they are announced.
Granted, it definitely will not be everyone's cup of tea, nor is it meant to be, it being bigger, badder and more massive (I love the crystal) even than the mighty DSSD. I think that it will attract a bunch of us... like moths to an open flame... another Grail!! Impractical yes, and made to prove a point... absolute, ludicrous depth... damn thing goes deeper than a 688 class. I'll bet Sly and Arnold already have their order in!! The only con is that Rolex should steroid up the Oyster Bracelet for this one, as well as on the DSSD too.

Shame.
I can see a whole lot of enthusiasts with large wrists jumping all over it for the novelty, not that they would ever need it in the Mariana's Trench.

This case measures in inches - about 2 inches wide and over an inch thick. The thing would wear like a golf ball on your wrist and feel like a brick.

But maybe if they did a diamond paved dial and a factory baguette diamond bezel it would capture the urban bling market.

To each their own, but I can't believe anyone would ever want this on their wrist, simply way, way overkill and its gotta be uncomfortable as all heck, right?

Deepsea Challenge Rolex

There were 5 watches built that all went to the bottom of Marianas Trench strapped to James Cameron's Sub. These are priceless; the listing below is fake.
I am pretty sure Rolex would not sell them for less than $1,000,000 each.

There were 51 built to normal standards(submariner date), all engraved with the project and date.
One has been stolen (serial number registered with Rolex as stolen), the others are in possession of the people that worked directly on the project.

I know of one team member offering his for sale, asking $18,000 US.
I know of another that was offered $25K US, but the owner turned it down. PM me if you want to get in touch with the current seller. I am not making a commission, just helping him sell it.
