Help identifying this Date Just

Hello,

I'm hoping the experts here can help verify the authenticity and help me better understand what this watch is exactly.

Back story, it' was purchased in the mid 80's by a family member who doesn't know much about watches. no box no papers. Not sure what the serial is. What throws me off is the Rolex engraving on the back and the face looks a bit off to me. But I am no expert.

Thank you.

Not Rolex

Should you be able to take the case back off I bet you will find an Asian mfg. movement.

The reason that the engraving on the back looks odd is because it shouldn't be there.

Counterfeit, unfortunately.

Back then? "They" were doing it at least as far back as 1940. That's the earliest newspaper report I have found for Rolex copies.

Old Expat Beast, it's wonderful to have you share your knowledge in so many areas. Thanks
