Two very different submariners
Went to see a movie with some friends last night.
I was wearing the current ceramic submariner and a friend was wearing his older 16610. He had diamonds put on his dial a few years after ownership. I'm fairly certain that the entire dial wasn't aftermarket. What can I say? He liked mine because of the ceramic and the beefed up case and I liked his because of the sleek lines. I don't think I would want that model over the current one, but I do wish Rolex had kept some of those lines. Last shot is from inside the theater.

While my Sub is pre ceramic, I do like the new bezel and the significantly improved clasp and bracelet. The case is a bit different, as is the dial, but overall a top piece. I much prefer my watches 'stock'; never been a fan of diamonds on a watch.

Nice comparison shots, the diamond dial looks better than I thought it would, not for me but not too bad.

Every time I see diamonds on a men's rolex, I can't help but hear Carrol Channing "diamonddddds, diamonddsssss"

The diamonds seemed to be well done, but definitely not for me.

Know what you mean...I have a friend with the older 16610, and it always has a special presence when I see it.

16610 is riding really high on that wrist. Good comparison!

I like the new squarer Subc case, looks better on my wrist than the new thinner GMTc case.

both look nice to me. I think as new designs evolve, the older ones mark their place in time. It's like looking at a classic automobile and you know exactly in which time period it was born. But in order to become classic, you can't stray too far from the formula. I think the new Sub gets it just right :)

Inho everything is better on the current model but the lugs.
