I've read on a couple of threads how people describe the 'weight' of a PM Rolex as something special and I too wonder what the difference is between the SS model and a PM variant. Is it desernable? Not that armed with this knowledge I will go and buy one because they are well out of my price range.

Just interested.

Definitely discernible and one of the very nice aspects of owning a PM piece in my opinion.

You don't forget you have a watch of your wrist.

Is the extra weight just positive - or is it sometimes also a drawback? I am assessing to buy a 116619LB, but the whole weight issue is not appealing since I currently love 14060, 16750, et al due to their feather weight.

I think the weight of a watch can be a positive or a negative to the owner depending on what he is looking for. Similar to cars, some people like huge heavy cars (e.g. trucks/SUVs) and others prefer smaller lighter cars (e.g. sports cars). I prefer my platinum watches in leather strap so that the weight is not too overbearing, but that is a personal preference.

Yes big difference, and the difference from gold to platinum is surprisingly about the same, gold is actually the mid weight division!

Roughly - SS Sub 160g, YG Sub 220g, Platona 280g...

THIS is sarcasm, right?

I love a hefty watch, I don't equate it to quality, I equate it to heft.
