What is the dial material below the lacquer?

I did a quick search and did not find anything, but recall someone providing info a while back. What is a modern day SS Rolex dial made of... that the black lacquer is then applied to?

Has the material ever been upgraded from the vintage process?

Brass although white gold models are made of white gold, platinum models are Made of platinum etc

Most are brass are few are precious metals
