Holy Trinity of New Rolex Sports Watches?

Does anyone have an opinion on THIS idea for a the Ultimate 3 piece Rolex Sports Watch Collection (3 pieces only).

I do pretty well so within 2 years I could complete this trilogy.
Here is what makes this special IMO.
a. WG, YG and PT (one of each)
b. A Diver Watch, Chrono Watch and a GMT Watch (one of each)
c. All sports watches
d. New models only
e. All Rolex of course

So here it is:
My Rolex Holy Trinity
(Because one grail watch is just NOT enough).

1. WG Rolex Sub 116619LB Smurf (owned)
2. YG Rolex GMT Master II 116718 (not owned yet) - Black Dial
3. Platinum Daytona 116506 (not owned yet) - Ice Blue Dial

What would you add/subtract/change to make the ultimate 3 piece Rolex Sports Watch Collection? New models only please...

For me, if we are going PM, it would be the following:

1. Submariner Date 116618 LB
2. GMT Master II 116719 BLRO
3. Cosmograph Daytona 116505 (pink dial)

Although I am not a fan of WG or platinum, the GMT in WG would be my choice as I feel that reference is the perfect representation of the classic GMT Master.

GMT and Sub v similar - would swap out the GMT with an EXP II Polar and there you go, job done.

Buy one first and see which direction it takes you. Otherwise it's just shopping by numbers.

That's a great lineup Eric. I was thinking if I got the 116618LB instead of the 116619LB, I would do the BLRO also. But since I got the smurf, I like the 116718. Also the daytona you picked is a very very nice as well. Thanks for the feedback.

I probably will get a Polar EXP II at some point, but was thinking of three gold/platinum type of pieces for the BIG three. Thanks though, I do love the Polar Exp II.

Thanks for the advice... I DID buy a 116619LB already, and have a steel sub for kicking around in. Because the WG vs YG Sub was a tough decision, my next watch will likely be a YG piece. I have time to think about it, just pondering ideas and looking for feedback. But thanks

Thanks, I already started with the WG Sub and loving it... That Platona is a beaut to consider next!
Agree on losing the diamonds

I like this trio apart from the YG GMT. Yellow gold doesn't suit me so would have to be the BLRO

Love this trio too. For just 3 I would have the blue sunburst subc, GMTc in either metal and Platona. If ceramic comes on a RG Daytona bracelet then would have to add that.

Well, I would do this:

1) 114060 ND Sub. More true to original, stainless steel, the true tool watch. Under the radar.
2) BLRO GMT II. Now you have white gold, a super classic dial-bezel combo, a GMT complication and the date and the cyclops. Done.
3) Platona. Now you stepping up in the material even further. It is unique in how it looks (gorgeous ice blue and brown ceramic dial).

So in my reasoning, you are building up gradually, a diverse collection that offers the best of what Rolex offers. You got your SS, Gold and PLatinum cases. You got your Diver, Pilot and Racer themes. You got your full diversity of color - black, red-blue, ice-cool brown. You DON'T get the cyclops on 2/3s of your watches, a feature I personally dislike. Also you dont have PCLs on every bracelet.

So That trinity would tick all of my Rolex sports watch needs.

Seeing as you have the Smurf Sub, I would go for BLNR GMT, and have some stainless steel in your collection, if you are SET on going with the Smurf. I just think a white gold submariner as a tool watch is over the top, it's the full Msport performance package on a 318d BMW. Just an overkill. But if you love the blue, I can't talk you out of it and BLNR arguably won't be enough. Just think a Sub ND is a very nice addition to a diverse collection, purely from an aesthetics point of view.

cheers!

For me it's like this.

1. WG Smurf (have one)
2. TT GMT II (have one)
3. YG Day-date 40 mm (not yet)

If I was planning to buy the Platona I think I'll would wear that one almost everyday, what a beauty. I already have the SS 116610LN Sub (as rotation toolwatch), so these two will be enough for me. Also very happy with the three I have now

Probably said before but mine would be a YG Daytona on a strap, BLRO and Smurf.

SD4000, polar exp2, TT Daytona with blue dial

Three modern versions of rolex classics...black, white, blue...stainless and two tone...each one very different in look...each provides very different functions. Gives you great variety....

Personally, I like the Smurf but also think the YG Sub w/ Bluesy dial is as nice a YG sport watch as there is.
That would allow you to add the BLRO, which I much prefer over the YG GMT.
Whether or not its worth flipping the Surf is totally up to you, but its very re-sellable.
I believe (am I'm sure I'm in the minority at this point), that a Rolex PM sport collection of this magnitude should include the new Oysterflex bracelet.
Maybe make the collection 4 pieces and that gives you a totally different watch and covers all the Rolex PM's.

Holy Trinity of New Rolex Sports Watches?

If 3 PM only I'd go...
Smurf
RG YM
Platona
But I'd keep my BLNR in steel, best GMT ever IMHO.
