Look, I respect your opinion. I just don't see it that way and I'm not trying to convince you one way or the other.

Ha this question and my affinity for my watch coming straight from the shipping carton is why I always ask if theres one in the vault still packaged up. Many times there are and bingo, I'm a happy camper.

I own numerous Rolex watches and after Switzerland, I am the first to touch it. The term I use is "fresh". Let the unknowing buy the handled goods. |

A post on another watch forum (sshhhhh) showed a picture of an AD's inventory and the number of days Rolex watches were in inventory, and depending on the model, some were approaching 1800 days (nearly 5 years).

Does "handling" really affect a watch much? I presume the display models are picked up every night and put into a safe.

Then you consider all the tire kickers coming through--yanking on those crowns, turning the hands counter-clockwise, dropping the watches on the display case, etc... Yeah, no thanks. Those watches are used, and there's nothing anyone in here can say to convince me otherwise.. |

Now that Rolex wraps everything in protective plastic, it's easier to find a good one in stock. |

my 14060M is a M serial which I purchased in 2010, which suggests it sat in the AD window for the best part of 2 years. I don't think it was a particularly popular seller, most people choose the Date Sub.

But when I bought my watch SS Daytona from an AD recently, they had only one piece and it was fully stickered. They told my yes it was tried on as it was the only piece but it was stickered and wrapped so no scratches, that's what they said. I purchased that piece in the end. Knowing that I had no other choice in the sense. Where they would not have a spare one in stock to sell.

I was at my local Ben Bridge a month back and they has a "new" 214270 Explorer in the case with a scratch on the crystal(1/32"). I was surprised to see it on there but the salesmen didn't seem as surprised. Just sayin'

Well random serial numbers will sadly end this conversation and edge that a buyer has with an AD or seller.

Bumping this
I had a thought -- Rolex likely has a ware house full of watches in coffins sitting for years to send out as they don't change SO Would it not be logical that the brand new 2015 watch was made in 2012 ? Remember they make a million watches a year so they cant all be zoom strait to the AD . If this mystery ware house exists full of gold gems with random CN waiting to get ordered should not there be stock reduction sales when new upgraded models come out ? I think we need someone in inventory management to figure this out as I seem to of mudded it up :) |

My guess is part of their impetus to go to random serial numbers was so that customers don't complain about buying a new watch at an AD that has a 2 year old serial number.
