Help me choose my chrono

I'm trying to find a new chronograph but have not completely decided on what to get. Currently the two that have caught my eye are as follows:
Please post your opinions or any other chronograph that seems comparable, thanks.

Choice A: Everyone should know this one, the SS Rolex Daytona



Choice B: Vacheron Constantin Steel Chronograph

Looks like you know what the answer will be... SS Daytona all the way!!!! I have tried several different Daytona models on my wrist and found it utterly amazing how comfortable they were. Truly an amazing watch sought by many!!! Good luck with your decision!

As an owner of a tt daytona, i've got to say that the overseas chronograph is a truly gorgeous watch and has the added benefit of showing the date. while the overseas chronograph is much easier to get it is more expensive even with significant discounting. the vacheron is also slightly larger than the daytona (42 vs 40). Honestly, I think these two watches are two of the most beautiful watches out there and I don't think you can go wrong with either. If you are very patient or are willing to pay a premium grab the daytona, otherwise I'd get the overseas chronograph.

The VC bracelet is a work of art but I'm not a fan of the bezel at all and the date is a plus but not at the 12 o'clock position. I would have to say the Daytona out of those two.

I actually went and tried on the Blancpain Fifty fathoms today and the air command. I really liked both watches but the only thing that turned me off on the fifty fathoms was the leather band, and im not sure if I can sport the 45mm. However i really liked the air command, I might have a third watch I need to throw in the mix.

After six months the hype over the SS Cosmo had faded for me and I flipped it for a Sub. Why don't I miss it?



Because I have this. Sure the Daytona has a great movement but so does the VC and it also has a date. Now while I'd like TRF members to be a bit more open minded it ain't gonna happen. Sadly, many know nothing about watches other than Rolex. They remain on solid ground because there is no such thing as a bad Rolex, but VC and other brands aren't exactly junk either. I will tell you this, the bracelet on the OS blows away the Daytona's. Accuracy of the OS is on a par to my Daytona too. It's also easier to read and has better lume. As to the bezel -- has ANYONE here EVER used the tach feature on the Cosmo bezel? I find it busy and distracting. Others may disagree, but the OS bezel is a plus and the Rolex bezel is a neutral feature at best. Don't know much of the difference in terms of magnetic resistance, but I understand the VC is in a soft iron core cage. This is probably better protection than the Daytona, but I'm not sure. I mention it only so you can do more research if this feature matters to you. I've never had a mag. problem with any of my watches. Only thing I don't love is that the VC doesn't have a hack feature. As a practical matter though, that didn't turn out to matter much.

The VC chrono is indeed a fantastic watch. Some - including now you, Matt - have said that the only chronograph movement that is comparable to the Cal. 4130 from Rolex is the VC chrono.

It is much more expensive than the SS Daytona, though.

Still, if I had the funds for the VC, I would choose the VC over the Daytona.

The Daytona has never appealed to me, and so my opinion probably doesn't have much relevance to this thread.

I find the Omega Seamaster Chrono more attractive and practical than the Daytona, as I do the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms.

I'd like to know more about the bezel on the Fifty Fathoms.

Both the Seamaster and the Fifty Fathoms have a 300-meter water-resistance rating, which one does not see very often in a chronograph; and the Seamaster has COSC certification.

The Seamaster costs on third to one fourth as much as a Daytona or a Fifty Fathoms.
I wonder if the Seamaster gives up anything in quality.

I think the real value in the Daytona lies in its ability to catch the eye.
In the prestige game, the wearer of a Daytona will never feel "under-gunned."

Funny how that prestige thing works.
For me, a mid 1960's Submariner ought to imbue its wearer with the most prestige; but then few people would recognize it as such, and so it would look like the wearer couldn't afford a new Rolex.

Stealth prestige.

It continually amazes me how many professionals and executives notice my Rolex and, whether they comment on it or not, I can see them looking at it.
We gents should keep that in mind regarding cleavage.

This has been one of my dilemmas, in today's world it seems like everyone knows Rolex as the "best" watch out there in terms of brand recognition. But there are finer timepieces in actuality, just the general public does not recognize them like Rolex. I know this shouldn't matter to me as long as I love whatever I buy, but secretly everyone likes to show off a little bit. So I'm kinda wondering if buying a ~14k watch that's not Rolex is worth it if people can't appreciate it, because its not like money is no object. Hmmm... decisions.
