The first scratch is the deepest...

I saw someone post about scratch remedies and it got me thinking...

Anyone else remember their first scratch?

Mine just so happened to be the hardest hit the watch has seen since purchase; which is surprising given that I have been up and down mountains, in both US adjacent oceans and face-first into a jetski (don't ask).

I was working with a fussy client and walked away from my desk to grab some paperwork for them. As I walked past their chair, I felt(and heard) my Daytona slam against my glass office wall. It dug a little edge off of the PCL.

It's still one of the first things I notice when I'm handling my watch.

I was in Cancun when I bought my SS Daytona years ago. I scratched the hell out of the bezel while there somehow. Needless to say, I had it replaced at the RSC when I got back home. A little crazy I'd say.

Unfortunately, scratches are inevitable but just part of wearing a watch.

My first real scratch, discounting swirlies was when the gentlemen behind me in the security line at Narita Aiport was taking his laptop out of his briefcase and inadvertently hit my 1 week old TT GMTc with his laptop. Ended up with a little scratch on the bezel. Only I know it's there

I don't remember my first scratch. It's one of those repressed memories.

Of all the watches I own / have owned... I can't say I remember the details of how I got the first scratch on any of them. More than likely on the buckle / clasp from the desk.

My first Rolex scratch occurred at about 3AM one morning, heard our chocolate lab coughing something up and about to barf, I flew down the steps into the sunroom to let him outside as fast as I could, cracked my arm against the metal sunroom door in my rush to get him outside. (I got him out in time!)
We lost him a couple years later, that scratch on the clasp still reminds me of him and of that night.
I miss my buddy every day,,,

The first major one on my SDc I still don't know when or how it happened. It's the most visible one and looks like death's scythe. I guess a grim reminder that our time here isn't permanent and that I should pick more up to obscure the damned thing before it makes me think too much.

Nothing major in my Exp II, but I got a really choice chip off my DLC Breitling when my eldest played with a metal drinks coaster and frisbeed it to me.

Great story Tim. I snuggle with my buddy Sam like that almost every day. I hate even thinking about losing him but they don't last as long as us, unfortunately...

His teeth have hit my watch countless times but never left a mark. I would be less upset if at all compared to hitting it on the gate latch like I tend to do.

Thanks Rory, we still haven't had the heart to get another dog yet, that loss really stung. The next year almost to the day we lost "fat Max" who had made regular appearances here as an honorary member of TRF. This guy was a riot! He was 13 years old. He was never a cause of any watch scratches though!

I was mourning Roger for close to five years before getting Pia. I guess they remind you that we should enjoy every moment in life.

I have just bought some Cap Cod cloths to use on my 37 year old Air-King. I gave it an application and polish this afternoon and the results are amazing. The case had some quite deep scratches on either side and they are now almost invisible to the naked eye. I am very impressed as my watch now looks like it has just returned from Bexley after a Service.
