Hodinkee Interview: Ralph Lauren

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/a-...f-ralph-lauren

Interesting, don't like Rolex or Patek that much and never owned a Patek....

RL likes vintage Cartier mostly, some vintage Pams, and Urwerk!

If he wasn't RL, he would get slammed for having no taste by Rolex and PP fanboys here.

Actually probably will get slammed anyways.....

This is great! Thanks for sharing.

I admire Ralph Lauren and everything about him. I am a long time wearer of Polo RL and most recently his western/workwear line, RRL. I have eye on the RL67 Safari Chronometer camouflage dial model. It's a pretty cool looking piece.

Look he's got more money then Croesus and a better eye for style than any other straight-man alive but his whims about watches are unimportant... His automobile collection on the other hand is out of control!! Some choice pieces were part of an exhibit at the MFA 4 or 5 years ago and OMG it was exquisite!! I'm an MFA member but I would have paid to see it, the cars where unfathomable!!!

I love his Bugatti.

He is an American success story, and a design original. Fred Astaire and Cary Grant are his design muses (great choices). He has a great "eye," which includes an affinity for Art Deco and vintage military watches. Modern Rokex watches (except for some Cellinis) generally don't fit that mold.

Everyone has different style preferences. Look at the variation in residential architecture, which can be more extreme than automotive or watch styling differences.

Still a fan! This other Hodinkee review provides more insight into the Ralph Lauren collection. These are not "fashion" watches.
