1675 Check

I'm really sorry to bug everyone about this...sure you all gets lots of these, but was hoping for some input.

Im in the market for a 1675 matte dial, and gave across the following for sale on Vintage Rolex Forum. The seller says its an original MK4 dial with a service insert. He has authenticity check papers from an AD on the watch overall, but nothing else. The crystal is noticeably scratched, which I plan on replacing.

How does everything look to you guys?

Is that pitting on the lug, case & caseback? Some are OK with that, I personally would not want that. The crystal may polish out nicely. To be honest I am still learning about the dials & inserts so I'll defer to other on that.

On a second note if anyone can help answer, how does that happen to a watch, and how can it be prevented?

It depends what you are looking for..

First, it is not a Mk-4...but a Mk-5. What is the partial serial? Maybe it is supposed to have a Mk-5.

How about service history?

On the third picture, the case on one end (left side) appears to have a large pit or cut. If that is the case (no pun intended), it may not pass a pressure test.

I think that the Rolex instructions mention that a cleaning after exposure to salt water and occasionally otherwise is something that might help in avoiding this problem. I believe that everyone should learn how to remove (movable) bezels and bracelets and clean the outside of their cases with a soft brush and detergent. Dropping their bracelet into a solution of ammonia and water for a couple of hours and rinsing under the faucet does wonders and keeps unnecessary wear down.

I have also had no problem getting gaskets changed in between services and watch maker inspection at that time always for minimal charges and often none if it is your watchmaker. Finally, replace spring bars before they replace you.

Not terrible at 5k but need insert + bracelet ( another 1500) and that second hand would drive me nuts
