Does your sub touch the water?...
Hi all,
The other day I went snorkeling with a friend. I was wearing my old Vostok Amphibia with mesh bracelet and he was wearing a new 116610. When he was ready to go in the water just took out the watch and told me...better dry and warm!!! I said, whaaaaaaaat??at the beginning but in my internal thinkings... it´s true!!! there´s the favorite in my collection and never take it to the sea!! I´m an idiot?? my favorite is the 16600!! Is this happening to you?? or my question is absolutely crazy?? Thanks all in advance! |

I take pleasure in putting my watches through the paces. Shower, hot tub, ocean, they all get to touch my 904L and 316L

I've taken my 16610 in the ocean, tub, shower (hundreds of times), pool (hundreds of times), but never been in a hot tub with it although I would trust it since hands usually aren't submerged too long in there. I've read all the stuff about temp swings and hot water so wouldn't surprise me if owners kept their watch dry in those situations.
And just for lack of knowledge I was always confident with the screw down crown. Since I've learned about how crowns are designed to be water proof I still feel more safe with my sub than a push down crown. Just instincts I guess but don't like taking non screw crowned watches in water like I do with the sub even though they are rated over 30 meters. |

One of the main reasons I wear Rolex Watches is to NEVER take them off.....eat, sleep, swim, dive, work, play, travel......
My wife wears her 26mm Date-Just the same way for the past 20 years.... I have a buddy with a two-tone Sub and he takes it off to shower....WTF? For 20 years I would wear my Explorer-II during the Fall, Winter, & Spring.....and my Submariner in the summer.....7-24-365.... Now I only wear 42mm Explorer-II's year-round....same deal.... |

I think the fun part would be having a sub and pretending to use it as its meant to be.

I never shower with a watch on, I really don't see the point. I clean them separately often enough.
I also usually use a G Shock to swim. My nice watches are insured, so I am OK with getting them wet, I just prefer not to risk the damage or loss. I do see the irony in wearing a dive watch like my Breitling with a Croc strap that can't get wet, but it doesn't bother me... |

You should never wear your Sub in the water, when you sleep, when you cook, do yard work, at work, or play golf. True story.

So a dive watch is not supposed to be used in the water?

It's a Rolex, wear it when and where you want to. You won't hurt it...

If I couldn't wear it doing simple things like that, I would not even want to have it.
Nicknames, should I, what's it worth? None of this bothers me even a little. Not wearing my watches on the water, any water? I'd throw them away.

When I got my SubC a couple weeks ago I babied it for about a week now it's been on the wrist and won't come off even in the shower, pool and when I sleep. I understand people's apprehensions since it is an expensive watch but enjoy it and wear as it was meant to be, a sports watch.

My sub and GMT learned to not be afraid of the water early in their lives with me.
One or the other has been dunked in oceans, rivers, lakes, pools, hot tubs and showers in at least 1/2 of the 70 countries I have visited around the world through my work and leisure trips. |

Picked up my 114060 the day before I left for Florida. It spent several hours in the ocean and pool. Its a submariner, meaning it should be one with the ocean.

What a shame to limit a watch born to the water to never expose it like the professionals of old (and some current ) did. |

I haven't been diving yet, but no matter where I am I have a watch on (except the shower). Although my Kobold has been in the lakes and pools plenty of times, my Rolexes / Tudors have not yet . I expect this summer to see my SubC, Tudor Sub, and BBN in the water a good amount of time.
