Dare I say it?...I don't like Daytonas

I just don't. I know that sounds like Rolex Forum blasphemy.

Since the day I started admiring the Rolex line I have been amazed at the following and esteem that the Daytona seems to inspire.

There are folks in these forums that would pawn their own grandmother to get their hands on an SS Daytona but I have never understood why. I've looked at pictures, held a couple of TTs, even tried one on and I have to confess, I JUST DO NOT GET IT.

Do any other Rolex fans exist that don't like the Daytona or am I on the island by myself? The upside however is that there is one less person out there competing for them.

Whew. It felt good to get that off my chest.

Ok,...........flame away!

Different strokes for different folks. I enjoy my SS but it's not my favorite.

For $7,900 I could have grown to love one...For $9,200, I cannot. They are beautiful but they don't make me swoon. Just my 2 cents.

Not my taste at all, like many other rolex watches actually. If it isn't a GMT, Sea Dweller or Submariner I'm not interested. I can fully appreciate the art of what they are but I'd never pay money for one.

I love the Daytona. Best looking chrono out there and not a bad movement to boot too :)

The missing the date function makes me feel love and hate on it. It may eventually push me to buy a classic Tudor chorno version.

I have to admit that I'm with you Brian. I just don't get that feeling like I do when I look at my Sub or a TOG or a GMTetc.. I'm not a chrono fan I guess, but I'll probably never purchase any model Daytona

to each, his own

originally, the only rolex i liked was the white-dialed daytona. i never saw myself wearing a watch which had a black dial. however, after spending some time on this forum, i'm afraid i am going to have to have the daytona, LV, and IIC.

As background, I find the long sweeping hand of a Rolex to be one of my favorite features. The absence of that is a big detraction for me.

The Daytona is a great watch for sure but nothing on my list for anytime soon at all. Strongly prefer things like the GMT Master IIc, Submariner etc. it would be 3rd on my list in that case.

For the person that absolutely needs one and it makes them smile then it is well worth the marked up price (to them probably). GMT has a feature that for me would be of more use. Chronograph is a VERY good tool to have but from my past owning Chronograph watchs it was never used.... The tachymeter feature is to me a cool thing but more a novelty. To calculate average speed or what not. Could never see myself in a car going "Hmmm... wonder how fast i'm going, AH I know let me use the tachymeter on my watch" but that is just me.

The Daytona is an EXCELLENT all around watch. Looks perfect for dressing up or in jeans and a t-shirt. My passion is for the more prescious metals such as the 18K Yellow Gold model. As stated above it is 3rd on my list but can never see myself paying the asking price for a SS model.

I personally find that I have reached a point in my life were if I am not going to use something, I don't buy it. The chrono function is just not something I want to spend my hard earned money on, the SS white Daytona is a good looking watch, but I cannot justify spending that much money on a watch just for the heck if it. I think marriage and 3 kids has really changed my outlook on what is important to me, I can still wear a nice sub on my wrist and not take away from money that I could spend on my family.

Never liked or wanted one and then; last Christmas the wife bought me one. You can decide why I like it now, but I do.

Here's a picture for reference.

Brian, I'm not gonna flame you but you can reconcile yourself by putting your name on an AD waiting list and then if it ever becomes available simply let one of our fine Forum members here have the opportunity to buy it.

Wow when I viewed this thread, there were 15 or so other members viewing it at the same time.

I'm sorry to say this but....I'm personally not really fond of the Daytona for a few reasons:

1. Lack of a date feature, I love a date feature on all my watches.

2. The fact that the SS version is still very difficult to find is a big "turn off" for me. I only expect that whole scenario with vintage watches, not modern...

3. I don't really find the chronograph feature useful for me personally or convenient for that matter. With the screw down pushers, its like I have to remove the watch just to use the chronograph feature which I dont want to do since it interrupts timekeeping purposes.

I just got ahold of my fourth and I think I'm keepin' her. I'd really hate to get rid of my Black Beauty.

Id take one IF the AD ever calls me.. but yeah, Im not important or worthy enough to have one according to many AD's here in Houston.
but eh, they are okay.

I think I want one only because they are so rare. If they were readily available, I would never buy one.

I am with you

I don't dislike them but they aren't my favorite chronographs. In fact the only Rolexes that I do like are Subs, Gmt's, SD's and Explorers. The others just don't interest me that much.

Props to you Steven for admitting that! We are a fickle and easily manipulated species.

Sorry Taylor,

I should have clarified. I enjoy seeing the long second hand sweeping at all times. Having a chrono engaged constantly would be the only way to see this on the Daytona as far as I know. Probably not good for the watch?

To my knowledge it won't hurt it a bit.
