i would personally wait a little bit until everyone is more comfortable with each other.. then you can bring it up and it may start a great conversation!

I think it depends what the atmosphere is like.

Sometimes I do - sometimes I don't.

First time ever was a guy's Day-Date - he then said "I know nothing about it - I have had one for 30 years and still can't set the day or the date"

That was a few years ago and, at the time, it shocked me.

Since then, comments like that don't shock me so much!

All the best,

Harry

I voted yes and have gotten mixed results, people say thankful rather wary as if they were'nt expecting it. Some enjoy the compliment and kind of break the wrist to show it to me.

I didn't get into watches until after I was finished with all that meeting/greeting stuff.

I must have missed a load of interesting watches.

I don't like to draw attention to their watch in a business meeting. At the golf course, at dinner, it may be different !

I've seen various Rolex models at work and commented on them. In two instances, though, the Rolex watches were spotted during a meeting and I chose to first later comment on the watches I saw. The first was a DJ 116200 with a silver dial, diamond markers, Oyster bracelet, worn by a female. The second was a Sub 5513 worn by a man.

Not during business meetings. I would say something if the meeting breaks into coffee break etc. That would be the time to comment.

I rarely do during a buisness type situation but elsewhere I do if I'm not going to disturb someone. I was at a party in the Keys last month in the most laid back of situations. There were at least 5 Subs there 3 TT and 2 SS and 1 Pepsi. Didn't even comment to anyone. Just seemed normal. I thing saltwater anglers and guides have a very high wrist to Sub ratio from what I've seen.

Not always. It just depends on the setting. I usually don't if there are non-WIS people around. Most non WIS people don't get it.

I agree. Some people may take kindly to it but others may not appreciate a compliment. Sometimes it just takes a little extra effort to find somebody who owns a Rolex and is considered a "WIS" at the same time.

Even if I am terribly proud to have my solitary humble Rolex sit on my wrist... I try to pretend it is no big deal and do not bring it up in conversations.

It's probably fine, provided you aren't standing next to them at the bathroom stall when you make the comment.

I voted that I do bring it up but after I've met the individual but this has occurred only once since I've had my Rolex. Prior to owning a Rolex, I didn't say anything since I didn't have one. I didn't want to look like I was gauking.

The one time I mentioned it the individual told me an interesting story. Prior to owning his SD, he had a DJ given to him by his relatives. He didn't have the DJ insured at its true value and lost it. He liked the Rolex brand and decided to get another based on the money his insurance did give him along with his own money. That's how he ended up with the SD on his wrist.

If somebody were to say to me (which they haven't yet) in a NON business setting "Nice Rolex...", I would expect this to be followed with "...hand it over, along with your wallet, nice and slowly and nobody will get hurt".

I wouldn't mind receiving a comment in a business setting, but I voted "no" as I certainly would not comment on somebody else's watch in case they think I'm a freaky weirdo.

I think a lot of folks have no idea what's on their wrist. If I see a DJ or DD, I assume the wearer to be a non-WIS, and only wearing an expensive watch. I've commented a few times (sometimes I just get so excited to see one in the wild, I can't help myself), and most folks are clueless. "Yours is a Rolex too? It looks like a Seiko."

That's more or less my thinking as well.

After a few meetings and if things are getting casual I might bring it up, but honestly, unless it's vintage or somehow special (indicating the wearer might be a WIS) I don't think I'd bother.

Funny thing happened last week, I met a new guy in our company during a strategy meeting. He was wearing a nice Breitling. I had my GMT IIc on - glittering as it's known to do. While we were talking I kept seeing his eyes dart down at it. Kind of made me chuckle a bit.

I don't. And, I've been in many a meeting where it wouldn't have been a bad idea to have a security guard at the door to protect the wrists in the room.
By the way, in those meetings I sometimes do a lot of
