Hey guys - Merry Christmas to all! So, today I was at my in-laws and my father in law says "hey i've got some watches in my drawer upstairs and there are a few fake rolexes and a couple other ones, want to see?" So, I of course could not resist. I looked at the first few, funny quartz versions of fake Rolexes. And then...he says "oh look at this one."

So he tells me "oh yeh it's a Tudor, I think it was like the original Rolex, I got it back in around 1980ish." Of course from the forums and liking watches, I know what a Tudor is (prob more than him) and he says I can have it!

So anyway, now I have it. The question is: What should I do to recondition it? I already ordered polywatch from amazon for the plexi glass. He has a different strap than the original one that came with it, but I'm thinking I want to order a dark brown leather NATO. Should I polish the case or no? Right now, I have a BLNR as my everyday watch. I'm excited to put this little bad boy in my rotation!

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated...thanks!

I would service it and wear it. It's tough to say if I would polish the case....the pics aren't really clear.

How much would it be to service it? You think a dark brown leather strap would look cool? If you click the pictures they get bigger...thanks!

Light polish on the case replace glass and a nice formal leather strap (from Tudor) to keep it original. Then wear and enjoy.

Anyone know what size watch band I might need? 19 or 20? I believe it's 36mm?

Nice Tudor; likely less expensive to have it serviced than a Rolex. Not certain of the cost however. Is it running?

None of those quartz were the Rolex OysterQuartz were they.

Don't touch it. Is beautiful as is!!
If I'm not wrong that prince mounts ETA 2834. A local watchmaker can service it. If you want to change band just take the ruler and measure between lugs.
Don't polish, leave the plexy and wear it!!!

I think Rolex service starts at 650. Should be far less than that. I would try to clean up the crystal, service the movement and skip the polish. Sky's the limit with straps and so many great makers out there for all budgets. Go crazy with straps as different styles and colors give the watch different looks.

Sweet find. We're it me I would send it to our very own RWT aka Tommy. He did a great job on my 53' 6298 awhile back and preserved the patina while making it fully functional.

Any good watchmaker could service it and supply any movement parts if needed as its a ETA movement.But if it needs any dial hand parts etc then its Rolex.

Tough to tell with the small pictures, but does the case really need a polish? I'd try to leave it as is if possible.

Service it at Rolex. Start with a free repair estimate and decide from there.

Nice find. Easy and fairly inexpensive to get an ETA serviced. Maybe just a light brush and polish and polywatch the plexi. Should be 20mm if I remember.

Get a Tudor strap from any Tudor AD. When I priced Them out for my BB the strap and deployant clasp were about $400 combined. Now that was the distressed black strap. I am sure the gator Tudor strap off of my Advisor would be more.

Oh and have it serviced my Rik at Time Care inc or Vanessa. I would be hesitant to send that watch to Rolex service center.

Lovely looking watch, service on an ETA movement should be quite cheap. My local chap just did a service on one of mine which was not running and it was only £45 .

Wear it with a nice leather strap and enjoy.
