Replacing Original Parts...Rolex 1655
the watch is a 1971 Explorer II/Orange Hand with straight second hand.
(1) the dial, orange hand & hour/minute hands no longer glow in the dark. (2) the engraving on the back no longer lines up straight. (3) the black 24 hour bezel markings are worn. question...other than periodic maintenance should this watch be kept 100% 'stock'? this was a college graduation gift purchased over 40 years ago & as I recall, it originally cost $400 + $25 (for a stainless steel bracelet). haven't worn it for awhile because every time I had it serviced, I'd end up scratching the acrylic crystal within a week or so. as a result, I have been wearing Timex Expeditions & department store Bulovas for the past 12 years...they're OK but nothing to write home about. |

With anything vintage the best way to retain value is to keep it as original as possible.
Just wear it and enjoy! |

Are you able to put up any pictures of this watch? If you are looking to maintain its value, then definitely don't replace parts like the dial or hands. You can order a tube of Polywatch and that'll take care of the inevitable scratches on the crystal.

Photos, please! I'd strongly urge you to keep the watch exactly as is, with perhaps a movement-only service if needed. The scratches on the crystal are easily removed with Polywatch, as mentioned above.
