Really Rolex promotes this by providing alternative straps with the BBs (and some other modern Tudors) but not so with their Rolex standard offerings.

So I went to an AD yesterday asking for the Tudor leather strap to be removed and spring bars inserted do I can go full NATO.

The guy at the AD said he can do it but could not guarantee he wouldn't scratch the back of the lugs or the back of the case as he said there's very little room between the inside edge of the lugs and the strap to remove the spring bars. I noticed he had the Rolex tweezers for removing spring bars on the counter so assume that he would have used the tool.

I declined to proceed because I lost confidence in him and especially since he made no mention of taping up the case before attempting to remove the spring bars - experts, correct me if I'm wrong but even with that Rolex tool I would have thought taping up the case is just good practice to minimize any potential damage.

Anyone have experiences to share with taking out the Tudor leather strap from their BB? Oh I see, thanks. Let me give them a call first to check before I make a trip to the RSC.

Rookie question: if I take it to a reputable watch repairer who I'm pretty comfortable can do this, I presume something as simple as changing the strap won't void any warranties. Just trying to find another option besides the RSC (experts) and ADs (probably with less expertise than the watch repairer I have in mind).

No, it won't void the warranty, whoever changes the strap. Doing it yourself isn't really difficult, just be careful the first time, and get the right tool, like a Bergeon 6767-f, which is fairly cheap on ebay (I think mine was about $25).

I've always wanted a Black Bay Burgundy in steel since it came out in 2013, I believe. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And now, 2 other color options, but my preference has remained with unique Burgundy. I've always been a sucker for iconic/heritage pieces, and even the modern re-issues.

However, for some reason, I still haven't pulled the trigger on it. Probably because I have a number of diving pieces, from the affordable Seikos to a SubC Date. And should I acquire one, it will always be subject to comparison with its big brother, in terms of build quality and accuracy.

Secondly, at its price point, I find it quite expensive for an ETA movement. If it were fitted with an in-house Tudor, I would have had one already.

I've extensively read a lot of reviews and have been enjoying and quite excited with all your post here, but would appreciate your thoughts on this or maybe some other information that I have not considered to finally grab one for myself.

2012, it was. You should be able to find a used one with full set in good condition for little over 2k if you don't require brand new.

My only complaint with the black bay is that its quiet thick. I wish it was closer to submariner thickness.

Actually it feel thinner on the wrist. It sits significantly lower not having the traditional oyster bulge on the back. I owned a 114060 for over a year and could never get use to it; no such problem with my BBR.

Fair enough. I found the black bay top heavy compared to my other pieces. Was much better on leather for me - couldn't get the bracelet to sit well

So which Sub were you comparing it to? It definitely feels larger than my 14060 and it is.
