Sadly I Just Cant Do Plexi......

It's true. I have had 2 372s and the most recent one I put a gash in it so deep Poly Watch just wont completely fix it. I have no idea how I did it either. My first 372 a few years ago I brushed up against a concrete wall and scraped the bejesus out of it. Poly Watch did fix that one but I turned around and sold it. I think the 372 is the perfect watch...............except for the plexi. I love the way it looks and I don't mind the swirls but gashes are unacceptable for me and my active life.

So what am I to do? Well buy a 422 of course. Not entirely the same but it oozes awesomeness non the less. I should have it Tuesday and Ill post pictures when it comes in.

For 372 v 422, the 372 is awesome...unless one really needs moving seconds, a PR indicator and/or a sapphire crystal, in which case the 422 is the right call.

Agreed. My AD says their PAM rep told them the 372 for 2016 will have sapphire crystals.

That would be awesome. I know that would make the hardcore Panerai guys heads spin though.

I gave the 372 two tries and it just doesn't work for me because of the plexi. If you have any doubts, get the 422.

Congrats on your incoming...I too pondered that before I pulled the trigger, but there is something that the 372 has that the 422 doesnt. I love the 422, but went with the 372 as it somehow just kept alluring me. I do realize that the plexi is a danger zone for sure, but I rotate it in my collection, so it is not a daily wearer. Therefore, I tend to wear the 372 with caution and I am selective where it goes. If I were to wear it daily, then the 422 is alot safer and I would have went for that. Its crazy that you gave the 372 two seperate tries, it just shows you how alluring that watch is, but I am sure you will be more than satisfied with the safer bet, 422....big congrats again and hope to see the pictures soon.

You are right, the 372 does have something the 422 has. I wish it worked for me because I would rather have the 372 in a perfect world.

I was the same way with my 372. I'm not totally opposed to plexi as I enjoy it on my Speedy Pro, but for some reason the 372 attracted all kinds of scratches and I am VERY careful with my watches. It had to go, so I got a 111 and still adore it.

I researched long and hard before I chose 422 over 372. Most people recommended the 422 for a one and only, but every multi watch collection could use a 372.

I picked up a cheaper watch with a domed plexi crystal to wear as a test subject. Would love to pick up a 372 or 587 at some point if the evidence suggests I can take care of my plexi.

For now some domed 422 goodness!

I have a number of sapphire crystal watches with scratches. They will need new crystals for really minor scratches. With plexi, I can take care of most minor scratches. I also love the warmth of plexi and fine patinas from hairline scratches.

Would I want plexi on my PM Rolexes or PPs? Heck no! But it seems to suit the nature of the 372.

I don't mind the swirls and minor scratches on the 372. It was the deep gouge that needed a dremel tool to have any hope of getting to the bottom of the crack. In the 78 other watches I own or have owned with sapphire crystal I have never had a scratch. Two 372s with plexi and both seriously messed up crystals within weeks of owning. I love the LOOK of plexi as it is much warmer looking but I need the durability of sapphire. I am 100000% convinced of this based on my history of owning luxury watches.

Yikes, would you happen to have a pic of that gouge? Dare I ask?

That's what the spare plexi is for and they're not that expensive at $100.

Understandable. I baby my watches and use sports watches for active events just because of that.
The 422 is an awesome PAM - you won't be disappointed. While many were initially attracted to Panerai by their clean dials, I prefer to see movement on all of my watches so I actually prefer the 422.

Amazing how such rumors persist. That along with the removal of the 233 from their product line...

Hehe, I'm involved in the age-old debate of Hesalite vs. sapphire on another forum. Long-story-short, if Omega's "grey-ring" sapphire was closer to a copy of their venerable hesalite, I'd go sapphire. But as it stands, the 3572.50 may very well become my first and only (non-vintage) piece with plexi

Are you wearing your (serious) watches while doing sports / engaging in house-repair jobs, etc? I'll admit I sometimes brush up against surfaces but (fortunately) I tend to wear long-sleeved shirts. I usually roll the sleeves up when I'm at my desk, etc. but sleeves are usually down when I'm commuting, etc. Long-sleeved clothing is agreeable with the mean temps here in Vienna

Actually I am. I kind of stopped caring about abusing my SS watches. Not quite there with PM yet.
