I guess another way to look at it is there were only two people in the country/world who were willing to pay more than 14k. Still...

I had an overseas transaction go wrong on eBay once. The seller refused to send the item and then inactivated his(?) registration. I was told I needed to get a police report from the jurisdiction where the registration originated, which was UK, and this proved to be impossible without flying to Britain. No restitution of fees from eBay or Paypal, without that report. Fortunately, my life-lesson only cost $325.

I think that ebay has made getting protections from fraud a little better than in the past, that said we should all keep in mind that when it comes to matters of money or valuables, there is always someone trying to think of a way to steal them from one. Ebay was a convenient way to get ripped off but by far not the only way.

21K for a dial in that condition? Irrelevant what case it has, IMHO. Thin case, trashed dial = 21K wasted.
