Just make sure there is a name and dated on the warranty card if you have to send it in for warranty work.

As I understand and was told, some sellers have relationships with AD's and buy many watches at a discount from them. When they buy it, the warranty is activated but a name is not yet associated with it. Then when trusted seller sells the watch, they notify the AD of who bought it and tell them your name, so you can put it on the card.

You live close to a good AD!

The AD by my house only offers 5% off in the form of store credit on my next purchase.

Rolex warranty is not named - the name on the card is just a feelgood thing. Your name is not registered with Rolex when you buy the piece new. You can write Mickey Mouse to it if you want, it changes nothing.

Avoid undated cards, the date written on the card means nothing (but there is anecdotal evidence that Rolex can play hard to get with their warranty with some cards where the date written doesn't match the date sold), the date it was swiped through the card machine at the AD is when the warranty starts. So, for BNIB, I'd expect the date of swipe to be the date of my purchase, which is only available at an AD.

Rocketman - - I agree with your view. The OP is looking at the $500 difference in price between AD and trusted seller and the 10 year in house warranty. For $500, I would likely go AD too. The pieces I'm interested in are discounted quite a bit more than $500 compared to AD and that is why my next purchase will likely be from a trusted seller. I see several on the forum that have ironclad reputations so I'm comfortable purchasing from them.
