Not always worth the hassle. in addition to the below requirements, my state will also collect sales tax on the vehicle before they will allow it to be registered.

Quote:
Before you can register a foreign registered vehicle, car or motorcycle in the U.S., you must be able to prove that you or someone else filed an entry with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will not register a vehicle that has been imported into the U.S. without proof an entry was filed with CBP and proof the vehicle conforms to U.S. emissions and safety standards. If the vehicle does not conform to U.S. emissions or safety standards, you will not be able to register it in the U.S. You will either have to bring it up to U.S. standards or export the car.

This will be moved.. but I will chime in.

Cars have always been significantly more expensive in Canada unlike the Rolex disparity. Especially higher end cars. You won't be saving much after all the taxes.

Back in 2012 when the dollars were at parity, the car manufactures did not even bother to adjust their prices (Porsche did because they were almost 40% higher in Canada at the time). Lots of Canadians were going south and buying cars. Even after the paper work and import fees you were coming out ahead big time.

I lease my cars, currently an M3, which can be had in the US for almost half the payment I make in Canada.

While it's generally been true that cars have been more expensive in Canada than the US, exchange rate difference factored in, there are a few genuine bargains to be found - one great example is the VW Golf R.

In Canada, MSRP in $CDN is $39,995. That's $27, 500 US at around $1.45 Cdn/US exchange rate. MSRP for a US Golf R is $35,650 US - $8K US MORE than the same car in Canada!!!
