Question about 16610 vs 2254.50

Hello everyone.
I have a chance to pick up a 16610, but if I do, I will have to let go of my 2254.50 Omega.

Just wondering if anyone here who has/had both.
Will I regret it? I love the 2254.50 to bits, but I've wanted the 16610 for a long time.

Here's my 2254.50

I really like that Seamaster. Bought a Planet Ocean several years ago, it should have been your model, more usable. I would like to flip my PO, but had I acquired your Seamaster I would not have gotten a Sub. I don't have any recommendations other than I like your watch !

If you love your seamaster stick with it. I have several seamasters and several subs and as much as I liked the omegas I loved Rolex more. I'm obsessed with Rolex and completely ignore my other watches. I wore my Apple Watch to the gym the other day and was uneasy until I put my Rolex back on. I know I have a problem but my advice to you is stay away from the sub if you love the omega. You won't regret getting the sub but it might ruin you to other brands. The submariner is an awesome watch. Happy hunting.

I love my Seamaster!

Thank you!
I actually have a 16710 and a 16750.
I love the Rolex 5-digit references.
I'm just not sure if trading for the 16610 is worth 3x the price.

I actually do not wear any of my other watches anymore besides my Rs and Os and a special Bell and Ross.

The brand and the jewellery factor takes me to Rolex; the essence of a tool watch takes me to Omega.

I think that will be the basis of my decision.

The solid bracelet, movement serviceability, material heft, etc. are what drew me to Omega.
Rolex - the brand, the aesthetics, and the history.

This is tough!

I've had both. I actually let my 16610 go, missed having a diver, and picked up a 2254.50 as a replacement.

My extra experience was that as nice a piece as that particular Seamaster is, it was never able to fill the Sub's "big shoes".

Thank you, James, for the insight.
I will be missing the 2254.50 if the time comes that I'll need to let it go.

Just wondering - what was missing from the 2254.50 that it was not able to fill in the shoes of the 16610?

I know that wearing a luxury watch is all about the feeling, experience, and that "high" that you get while wearing it.
Every second that you look down on your wrist, not care about what time it is, and just appreciate the beauty of the piece.

Honestly, the Seamaster holds it's own in it's special way. The price difference is too large for it to be even compared with a Sub Date. The cheapest Sub Date costs $4,000 while a Seamaster costs $1500. Unless, you MUST get a Sub now and MUST sell the Seamaster in order get funds... do it. Otherwise, I would save a little longer and get the Sub Date later.

While the best move would be to turn that omega in towards the Rolex that you want, the problem is that you won't get a whole lot towards the Sub from that omega..so if you personally like it, then keep it.

From experience. .....

Keep the Seamaster

Add the Submariner

I let go of my Seamaster and really wish I hadn't.

Most of all it really did come down to the "feeling", but if pressed to cite tangible considerations:
- missed the scalloped bezel, engraved rehaut, and applied markers with white gold surrounds
- preferred the simpler look of the oyster bracelet and found it more comfortable
- didn't miss: the cyclops

Your Seamaster is a classic. I'd be hard pressed to let it go. I had one once and still kick myself for selling it.

If you sell the Omega, you will just have to spend time and money buying another one down the road. Save up a bit longer and keep it!

I have a 2254.50 as well. It's been quite reliable and keeps great time. I also have two Submariners. Keep the Seamaster if you can even if you add the Sub.

You'll miss that wave dial. Add the sub along side your seamaster.

I had both at the same time, but no longer own the 2254. To me the 16610 is a lot better watch, but 2254 are nice too and a lot cheaper. It's not that difficult to get a nice conditions 2254 and frequently available as many have jumped into the ceramic SMP wagon (like I did). As others said if you can keep both a better choice!

I've had the 2254's. I have a sub now

I miss the 2254 but here's my favorite part about the Rolex: the proportions. 42 didn't sit quite as sweet as 40 does on me. The 2254.50 is in my top 5 watches of all time. Bracelets great and so is the design. Looks great on mesh too. If I had to only have one I'd have the Rolex, but if you can I'd have both.

Pros of the omega: lume is great, dial is dynamic, bracelet and clasp better than 93150, cool case design

Pros of Rolex: prestige, OG design, resale, not ETA modified movement, higher beat rate, more flexible for what you can wear it with.

Hope that helps a bit. Both are great but as you can see I picked the sub but do miss my 2254.

one more vote (like many) to keep the Seamaster and buy the Sub if possible. Down the road, if indeed the joy/pride/thrill of the 2254 is done & gone....sell it.

Curious why you would say that. First hand experience?

If you can, add as these two references are simply amazing. I had a 2254.50 many years ago, but let it go. It actually did not go far as it went to my brother in law who has two of my Omegas. The other being a 300M Diver with blue dial.

Anyways, if the 2254.50 does not do anything for you anymore, then get rid of it and get the 16610. Just be sure you are ready as there is nothing worse than seller's remorse.

I have a Bond Seamaster (2220.80) and a SubC. I was going to sell the Omega to get the Sub, but so glad I held on to it. I'm with others here...save up and get a Sub, but keep the Seamaster. Good luck.

Definitely keep the 2254.50 and save up for the sub you want. That watch is very special amongst Omega guys for a reason, timeless look. I have that watch and the titanium version with the electric blue and there's not a replacement I'd let it go for.
